With all the religions out there, each one claiming its the only true one and if you don't believe it your damned forever, the likelihood is that they are all manmade with the intention of explaining the unexplainable, trying to hold you accountable for your actions, and to provide advice and stories to illustrate philosophies on living a good life. I can accept believing in a higher power. But why is it so bad for me to admit that I really just don't know? Why have a relationship with God that is probably based on a manmade construct? What is wrong with trying to define your own relationship with God? Or just saying I don't know, but I think this could be true. You could even still take the Bible, Koran, etc. and use it as a guidebook and advice on how to live your life/be a good person. But to just take them as the word of god when the evidence and logic point to it being manmade seems absurd. Why not admit you dont know and that you/we are on a journey of discovery?

Thanks for the responses Guys! So I have an idea about forming a new community/religion with the basis being we don't know the truth about God and the universe. It is still a work in progress, but if you are interested check out this thread: http://www.discussanything.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92678

Be sure to read through the whole thing as the idea is sort of evolving and becoming more developed. My user name over there is Ungst...

I don't know why either. Think about all the people that lived before Christianity. Did millions and millions and millions of people go to Hell then? Christianity didn't exist in order for them to believe in it. Because if that's true, it's a little unfair on God's part. Why wouldn't he have sent Jesus down here earlier then? Same goes for all other current major religions. Why have the only been around the past couple millenimums or so? What about people for hundreds of milleniums before then?

People don't like that they "don't know" things. That's my belief. That they feel like there HAS to be an excuse for everything. When there really doesn't HAVE to be. It's called coincidence. Some people can't just accept things for what they are and stop giving them some kind of magnificent purpose. Sliced bread was a good idea, but we don't attribute that to God... so were computers, but that's not God's doing... how about Yahoo Answers? I guess God made that too?

If they admitted that they dont know, would you come to them for advice, or give them your money are have them pray over you? Most religions are based on who is the leader and then we have followers and most of the followers dont know anything about spiritual matters and have to ask the leader. But if truth be told we are all on a journey called life to discover who God is in our lives. Everybody has their opinions about the way people should live. But God did not make little joes and big joes. Some people have more knowledge of God and his ways because they have spent more time with him and are not into controlling people to establish a following. Spend time with God, find out who he is for yourself, that's what i did and he showed me himself and he is not man made at all, he is life.

Human beings, being a fickle and needy people, must have a belief or beliefs in order to have faith in something. Without faith in a higher power, or God, if you will, we, as a people, would have nothing to look forward to after death. With a belief in a higher power, it gives us hope that at the time of our demise, we will either be reincanated, go to Heaven, go to summerland, or whatever our beliefs tell us. And also, as humans, you know yourself that there is no way we could ever agree on one belief, hence the many different religions.

i think people from all religions must believe that God they believe is one. if it's not there'll always war. Christian's God vs Muslim's God vs other's God. it also be better if the heaven they believe is one place.
and believer and non-believer agree that God is love.
since i'm an atheist, but if God is about universal love and compassion, i'm sure all will agree.

God Inhabits Eternity -

In the height of heaven (Job 22:12 below), in the third heaven (2 Cor.12:2 below) God (Isa.44:6, Isa.45:5 below) inhabits eternity (Isa.57:15 below) and dwells in Zion (Joel 3:21, Ps.23:6 below), the city of the living God (Heb.12:22 below).

Job 22:12 [Is] not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!

2 Cor.12:2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.

Isa.44:6Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I [am] the first, and I [am] the last; and beside me [there is] no God (Isa.45:5 below).

Isa.45:5I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me (Isa.44:6 above); I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:

Isa. 57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name [is] Holy; I dwell in the high and holy [place], with him also [that is] of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

Joel 3:21 For I will cleanse their blood [that] I have not cleansed: for the LORD dwelleth in Zion.

Ps.23:6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me (David) all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Heb.12:22But ye are come unto mount Sion (Re.14:1), and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels.

PRIDE-----------ALL RELIGION's are FALSE.
BELIEVING IN GOD is REALITY.
When GOD gave MAN-----TOTAL AUTHORITY to RULE and REIGN over HIS CREATION(EARTH and STAR SYSTEM), MAN started out ruling and reigning so that everything would get BLESSED.

TOTAL AUTHORITY was to be used RIGHTEOUSLY(for Blessing's)

When MAN sold out to the Devil(changed God's) MAN started using that AUTHORITY to RULE AND REIGN SINFULLY(unrighteously)

The Devil kills, steals and destroy's and man started following his new god, using his authority to curse.

MAN(male and female) curse's themselve's(thank's to satan)
MAN curse's each other(thank's to satan)
MAN curse's the planet(thank's to satan)
MAN curse's the star system(thank's to satan)
ONE MAN(male or female) dosen't want another MAN(male or female) RULING(authority) OVER THEM (thank's to satan)

MAN has ended up CURSING everything he's touched (thank's to satan)
GOD taught man to BLESS EVERYTHING
Satan teaches man to CURSE EVERYTHING cause man follow's his god, and his god KILL's, STEALS, and DESTROY's.

YOU have to change back to the CREATOR(who is a GOD too!!!) by getting SAVED(Born-Again) then you have to let GOD teach you how to BLESS and GET BLESSED, by learning how to RENEW YOUR MIND(which is in your SOUL). Hope this helps.
