actually, this is just one of the many things that our children need to do on a daily basis.
i have 5 children and i had the same problem with my first 2 kids. i just found out, they just do not want to listen to what i say.
so i did these:
1. i became more firm with my decisions especially anything concerining my kids, to show my authority and for them to know that you mean business whenever you say anything.
2. this is the time i gave them routine chores at home. this is to further give them a sense of responsibility around the house.
3. a time frame has to be given to every chore. this gave the children a very good sense in dealing with anything that would concern time (e.g. studies, errands, schedules like leaving on time for school).
it is a long process but it worked for me and even with my brother's kids. he has 8.

Set a routine and oversee it. Don't just go wake them up then leave them to their own devices. Explain the routine to the kids the night before and have them get their things together before going to bed. Then in the morning, stand in the doorway and coach them through the routine. They'll catch on to what is expected of them and eventually they'll have time to spare before having to leave the house.

We have set routine -- along with times to do these things on the fridge. And Mom or Dad always reminds of time limits (for example 5 more mins to finish breakfast; you need to br brushing your teeth now, etc) I have an 11 and 8 year old, and the 8 year old is always reminding his sister it's time to go! Set up a schedule and then stick to it even when it's hard for YOU!!

Yell at them and they will get the message. I always got up on time because I knew if I didn't I would get in trouble with my mom. Then again I was always glad to leave the house for any excuse.

Make sure you get them up early enough so that they can get dressed, eat breakfast , get their school stuff together and some time to watch cartoons. I get my daughter up a hour and a half before she has to leave for school and it seems to work great.

get them there own alarm clock my 5 yr old even has one, if you get up with the kids get your own, set it earlier then theirs that way you can hear theirs, wait till it goes off and give them 5 min, then go to each room and tell them to get up, wait 5 more min tell them to get up, if they still don't get up tell them that they will have to go to bed early, yes even when they are 16, there is nothing more embarrising to them then having there friends being told that they have to come in for bed cause they have prob getting up. do this a couple of times they'll knock it off.i have five kids16,14,9,6,3, not only that but if a note is required ask the teacher to read it allowed and truely appoligize that your child couldn't get up for class because he was a sleepy head.

What I did for my son was sent him to bed earlier, then we would pick out his clothes at night and he showers b4 bed.
I started to wake him up 20 mins earlier and that gives hime time to drag around and wake up fully and he cleans up and brushed his teeth and clothes are ready for him to put on and bookbag is in place and we head out the door.
