It is most likely a habit. He discovered that food was easier to digest once he had gotten rid of excess digestive juices, so he eats grass to empty his stomach contents.
Changing to a kibble with a lamb/rice base will help his stomach, but may not break the habit.
Its kinda like a person who pops Rolaids, as a habit.

Grass induces vomiting. You might want to go to the vet to find out why he has an upset stomach.

There are typically 3 reasons given for this behavior:
1. It's the dog's nature based on past wild behavior

Animals do this from time to time, he could have an upset stomach.. a partial blockage of hair or other unknown substance.
Is he eating and drinking normally, do you find any blood in his vomit, urine or stool?
If he has been doing this alot and seems to find no relief, I would suggest to either call or bring him to his vet, it could be a sign of a more serious problem.

Dogs eat grass to clean their stomach.
It is the same as for you taking an Alka Seltzer.
