They claim that their new charcoal with the grooves on it lights faster. It seems to take me longer.

I can not stand those pre-soaked charcoal. Go out and get an electric starter and then there will be no need for matches, lighter fluid or anything.

Use more lighter fluid....and make sure your shoot some to the interior of the pile. Let it soak into the coal for a minute before lighting.

Personally, I don't see how this "new and improved" Kingsford can light faster or burn longer when essentially there is less coal on the briquette.

It might take longer but it can even be used 1 more time my husband does it all the time.

not to me!
you might check the bottom of your grill. when there are to many old ashes it prevents air to circulate making it much harder to start your charcoal fire.
