They mess with everything. It's in their nature.

autumnshadz is correct.
The early Christians really turned things upside down...and the problems continue today will ALL branches of Christian dogma.
As to why the Catholics did what they did, the answer is simple: the need for converts.
The Church would not grow unless it had more members.
In order to get more members, they made it easier to become a member.
So they didn't just change the original 10 Commandments, but all 613 mitzvot found in Torah.
Seriously...how many people would want to become Christians if they had to be circumcised?
As time went on, and other branches of Christianity formed, the laws changed and were modified to fit the needs of the people.
So I ask: would Jesus approve?
I seriously doubt it.
Jesus was a Jewish theologian, who followed the laws of the Torah.
He worshiped on the Sabbath, which began Friday at sundown, he did not eat certain foods and you can darn sure bet that he was circumcised.

Hum. . . why am I answering for the Catholic when I am not one?
Hum . . . anyway, I do not think they messed up the 10 commandments to fit their needs. Well, there are some difference between us, but not too many.
Anyway, it would be clearer if you can point out which one they have messed up. In that way, it will be easier to answer.
For those who insist that we should go back to the old law, like cutting some skin away from our private part, eat only certain type of food, pray on certain day, I think that person has miss the point.
By the way, when I was young, I like to crack jokes about Catholic, and my teacher asked me, 'boy, where you get your Bible from?" . . . actually it is from the Catholic, minus the Apocrypha. If you think you are so good, go write your own Bible, else, stop talking bad about them.
In the same manner, if we keep talking bad about them, I think it is not the right thing to do. Unless we have different bible. Else, start praying for them (and ourselves) to understand God better.

Child of God, that's an interesting question.
Why has any religion turned away from God's laws and commandments and followed their own human traditions? The Catholics aren't the only offenders, or even the worst.
Go back to The Bible, and read about Jesus' confrontation with the Pharises where he criticizes them for substituting "mans laws" for "God's Word". Pretty harsh (but also all too accurate -- even to this day) that people often try to make themselves feel important by imposing their own beliefs upon others. Isn't that the appeal of "gangs"? That you ally yourself with someone more powerful? And how did the leader become so powerful -- by gathering followers !
As for the Catholic church, I was raised in that religion. Yes, it has it's problems. You can choose to concentrate on them (especially if you're trying to correct them -- but is that your purpose?), or you can appreciate the things that they got right, and there are many of those, as well.
As long as humans are susceptible to Satan's deceptions, he will continue to work to lead us away from God -- individually and collectively. It seems to me that he's doing a pretty good job, which is why we each have to safeguard our own relationship with God -- the only thing, after all, over which we have control. May God continue to bless your discernment in spiritual matters.

I think your question is vague. Please specify. Also, no matter what religion you are, you should always look at the good things first rather than the bad. This is how God looks at things. Why do you think this world still exists in spite of all the evil that is out there? God is a loving God and He gives all of us a chance to change. But, if there will be more evil, and people keeps ignoring God, then be ready for all of these bad calamities to continue to happen. WE ALL NEED TO START LOOKING AT THE GOOD THINGS and look toward bringing PEACE AND LOVE to everyone. WE ALL COULD BE LIVING IN A BETTER WORLD AND we deserve this because we have a loving GOD WHO REALLY EXIST OUT THERE. Stop pointing to the bad things in a religion (any religion), it really is because of what an individual did that was wrong not the religion. OH GOD, HELP US ALL!!!!

Because they (primarily St. Augustine) thought they could make money for the church if they changed things. They destoyed Christ's teaching on reincarnation and messed with so much more, including the ten commandments. The Vatican still holds many treasures and documents they don't want us to know about.
Guess man hasn't learned much in all these years. People still making things bad because of greed.

Who said they did? The Two Commandments Jesus gave are a consolidation of the 10 if you think about it.
17: Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.
18: For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
19: Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Catholics do whatever they want to do. They preach arrogance in their sermons. They also like to claim all kinds of oppression to take focus off the child-molesting priests.

Because they want to do whatever they want to do. To heck with what God tells them they should do. They don't want to be told that what they are doing is wrong, so they change the Bible to fit their desires and ease their conscience. The forget that changing the Bible does NOT change God. God does not change to suit us. He is the creator, not us. We must change to suit God (the supreme creator), just as children must change and obey their parents.

Because, they think the pope is right up there with God. So, they believe they have right to change whatever they feel like.
