This is the greatest recipie of all time for Sugar cookies. You will love them (and your reward to me can be my 10 points!)..Anyway, try them and let me know what you think. This recipie makes about 48 cookies, by the way

INGREDIENTS:
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.

2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in egg and vanilla. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, (optionally, roll balls around in sugar before placing on cookie sheet) and place onto ungreased cookie sheets.

3. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden. Let stand on cookie sheet two minutes before removing to cool on wire racks.

The one I still use from high school is using real butter and powered sugar in the mix. They are so creamy.
I don't measure much but here goes:

1 stick real butter
1 to 1 1/4 cuts powered sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
(blend until fluffy)
add 3/4 tsp baking soda
pinch of salt
2 cups (or a bit more) flour

Mix well, refrigerate for 1 hour or more
roll out and cut into whatever shapes
bake at 350 degree oven for about 12 minutes

Lemon Sugar Cookies
Recipe By : Jean Michaels, Redbook, 1978

If your little ones (and not-so-little ones) must have cut-out
cookies, this is the recipe. It's easy to handle, and has a marvelous
lemon flavor--and these cookies are good even if they've been
over-handled by your little helpers. Best sugar cookie recipe I've
ever tried!

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup margarine
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon lemon extract
colored sugar or sprinkles

Mix flour, baking powder and salt. In a medium-sized saucepan, melt
butter and margarine over moderate heat. Stir in granulated sugar;
remove from heat and let cool 15 minutes. Beat in eggs and lemon
extract. Add flour mixture, one-fourth at a time, mixing well after
each addition. Wrap dough and refrigerate 1 to 2 hours, or overnight.

Heat oven to 375 degrees F. Divide dough in half. On a floured board
or pastry cloth or between two layers of waxed paper roll one piece of
dough 1/8" thick. Cut with assorted cookie cutters. Place cookies two
inches apart on ungreased baking sheets. Decorate with colored sugar
if desired. Repeat with remaining dough. Bake 8 to 10 minutes, until
edges are lightly browned. Cool on wire racks.
