(I don't have a strong understanding of Christianity)

Personally, I say yes, but that is definetely not the stance of most churches. I am a Christian, and I am against the government controlling womens choice (which lumps me in the pro-choice category) even though my church (Catholic Church) is anti-abortion.
As for the gay/lesbian issue, this is one where people are taking scripture out of context, and judge people based on their own misconception. While the bible does say that homosexuality is an abomination to God, it is just another sin like lying, and all sins are equal. as a Christian you should be accepting of everyone and not judge anyone based on their sin as you are not free of sin either, so you should be fine with that. Unfortunately ignorant and rude "Christian" people hate the gay/lesbian community because they live sin also, and those people don't look into themselves and see that they aren't any better.

Not really.

To be Christian means to have the mindset of Christ who sets the example of how to live.

Christ did not tolerate acts that violated God's laws and principles. He did in fact tolerate those those who had previously led such lives and performed such acts when they showed repentence.

A Christian cannot support abortion, but can try to comfort or console someone who has had one and is feeling remorseful over it.

A Christian cannot rightly support the behaviour of Gays and Lesbians, but can be accepting of the person and cordial. Just like Christs example, a true Christian will hate the sin and not the sinner.

As long as the person does not show repentence they are not considered good association.

As a Christian, I could never be supportive of abortion. I can love the girl who has had an abortion, though, and I can try to help her to make better decisions for herself in the future.

I can accept gays and lesbians, of course. I am a sinner, they are sinners...we have something in common. I am a sinner too. That's why I need a Savior...:)

First off abortion is murder any way you look at it. It's like a pile of cow manure, you can paint it any color you want and call it art, but it's still cow manure. And accepting homosexuality is not something TRUE CHRISTIANS accept. Soddom and Gamorah were distroyed for that reason. God calls it detestiable..it disrespects his creation of men and women. Read your Bible...research it throughly...do not take any person's word for anything...they are only human like you...read 2 Timothy 3:16...John 5:39...also on homosexuality...Romans 1:24-27 1-Timothy 1:9-11 and Jude 7........for Abortion see Acts 17: 28
Psalms 36:9..Psalms 139:13-16...and Exodus 21:22-23.
Exodus 20:13...Cel

I think as a christian, we are taught to love the sinner, hate the sin. If someone continues in a sin, knowing it is a sin, he cannot call himself a real christian. The bible speaks against murder. Abortion, in my opinion, is just that. Think about it for a minute. The heart of a fetus begins to beat just 22 days after conception. If the fetus has a "living" heart, is it then not alive? As for homosexuality, we just have to accept the person, but again, not the sin. The bible refers to being gay as being wrong. God destroyed an entire city because of sexual perversion...homosexuality. You can find that story in the Old Testament about Sodom and Gomorrah. Also, there are verses in the NT speaking about these things.

I wish it was.
I believe that the Church is totally against abortion. However, they think it is okay for gays and lesbians to exist, as long as the do not act upon thier desires to have sex. This also means that they cannot be married becuase marriage implys that a couple will have sex.
But if you can seperate your belifs and your social/political feelings, you can live your life as a good Christian and still have a lassais-faire attitude about what other people do.

Technically, yes. Just like it is possible to be a Christian and be a jerk to people or overeat, etc. But the goal of a Christian is to become as much like Jesus as possible which means that while we should love those who have abortions, gays and lesbians, we should abhor the sin of abortion and homosexuality.

well, i'm a christian and i don't think being supportive of abortion is possible. i've never heard of that before. i've always thought that if you don't want a child then give it up for adoption instead of killing it.
accepting gays and lesbians is different than saying its wrong. i have a couple of gay friends- when i first found out they were gay i told them i didn't like what they were doing and we had a whole conversation about it, but they accept my views and i don't push it on them that i don't accept theirs. they're complicated relationships, but we're all really good friends. i hope this answers your question. i consider myself to be a true christian, but i don't know the views of every christian. a good place to go for very good answers to all your questions on christianity is www.everystudent.com. i hope this helps.

No, absolutley not. The bible pointedly condems both/ all of these practices.

Abortion:

Psalms 139:13-16 shows that God takes an interest in a person even as an embryo, ''your eyes saw even the embryo of me, and in your books all its parts were written down''.
Exodus 21: 22,23 shows how God views the sanctity of human life even within the womb, ''in case you men should struggle with each other and they really hurt a pregnant woman and her children do come out (and)...a fatal accident should occur, then you must give soul for soul''
These text are both found within the Old Testament and some will argue are no longer relevant in a modern world. I would have to admit that it is true that humans are no longer subject to the Mosaic law of which the Exodus scripture quoted above is a part, but it does show that God views an embryo as a life and a person in whom he may chose to take an active interest even while in the womb.
That being the case, it is easy to find scripture within the Greek text or New Testament to condemn murder, which it would naturally follow that killing an embryo would include if we accept that it is a person.
1 John 3:15 ''no manslayer has everlasting life left in him''.
Surely no person who accepts the love of God as Christians claim to do can imagine that God would approve of the inhumane treatment of human embryo's that abortion entails?

Homosexuality:

1Timothy 1: 9-11 includes among unrighteous and condemned acts ''men who lie with men''.
Romans 1: 24-27 speaks of God having ''given up to uncleanness...males (that) left the natural use of the female and became violently inflamed in their lust toward one another, males with males, working what is obscene''.
Admitedly in this modern age this makes uncomfortable, uncompromising reading for those that would try to water down the bibles message, but the end result is plain...God through the bible condems homosexuality.
However your question was can Christians be accepting of gays and lesbians?
True Christians should be accepting of everyone as an individual with an equal right to the free gift that God has provided of forgiveness of our sins and trespasses through the ransom sacrifice of his son Jesus. However as for the act of homosexuality Christians must accept that the bible condems such things!
As such, if a person who was gay or lesbian truly wanted to live in harmony with Christian principals they would have to remain celibate.
Not an easy decison to make, but God promises ''strength beyond what is normal'' to those who try to practice his will, and in time will reward their sacrifice and efforts.

Yes it is, depending on how you interpret the Bible. For example, it is written that you must love all of God's creation, including gays and lesbians. Abortion was created by God, was it not? And everything God gave us came with the promise of free will, so we can do whatever we want, as long as we are still glorifying His name. It's a twisted subject, but it really is an easy answer if you look into it.
