I have something that is offending me, though it really has nothing to do with me personally. My s-i-l got married to a man who is divorced. My sil has a rather derogattory nickname for his ex-wife and was referring to her by that name, long before she'd even met the woman. My mother in law has never met her either, and uses the same nickname. My sister in law's husband is a former pastor, has several children with his ex wife and he allows them to refer to his ex wife in this way. I don't know the ex wife, either, but I still find it extremely offensive the way 2 "Christian" women talk about someone they've never met. Please tell me how to Biblically show them this is wrong.

This was a little hard to follow, though I think I understand what is going on. There is obviously some bitterness going on; otherwise they wouldn't feel the need to insult this person. Show them I Corinthians 13, where it gives the characteristics of Christian love. And Philippians 4, where it speaks of thinking on "whatever is true, pure, right..." You shouldn't have to say much, the Holy Spirit will. Much prayer for wisdom on your part is necessary. James 1:8 says if we ask for wisdom, God will give it to us. Lastly, don't accuse them. Just tell them kindly that you felt that it may not be loving of them to do these things. Hope it goes well!

You have no obligation to show anyone to be wrong. The only obligation you have is to show the word of God right and good. Don't misinterpret what I'm saying. This battle is most definitely not yours. Just like you said it has nothing to do with you. Let it go, if you don't you'll find yourself in the middle of something that you don't want to be in. The next time you see him-ask him if you can pray together. Then, in prayer-bring up the name calling, and pray for him and his ex-wife. If he agrees and repents, then he may be a good man. If he does not-then you know why he is a 'former pastor'.

Ask for prayer for them in your church, and for the children. If you don't want to say it out loud, put it in a Prayer Box and ask your pastor, and or prayer group to pray over it.

Have a meeting with them...it says in the Bible to go to them yourselves, and if they still dont listen take 1 or 2 people with you, and if they still dont listen, go to the church, and if they STILL dont listen...treat them as a pagen...which doesnt mean to give them a cold shoulder, but to tell them about Jesus and witness to them.

You need to just say Hey~this is wrong! The Bible says Love your neighbor as yourself! Tell Them to STOP!!! It is rude wrong and will hurt these children! P.s. if they are CHRISTAINS they should no better!

Ask leading questions:

What does it mean to love your neighbor?

In what ways do you think you fail to witness for Christ?

I've heard some say, "You gotta love them..."

Simply say "I find that nickname offensive, would you please simply use her name?"
