Programs are starting up?

How do I change what programs open up with i turn on the computer. I have programs like msn messenger startup and i dont want it to.

Assuming Windows XP....
Start button / Run / type in "msconfig" (without the quotes)
Go to the Startup tab of the window that opens
Uncheck anything that you do not want to start when the computer is turned on. (If you change your mind, you can come back and recheck them)

go to:start>run>msconfig>startup tap.
