According to the bible and torah Josua who took over for the israelites after moses died led a conquest of the land of canaan in the name of god where he commited genocide against these innocent people killing man, women, and child with no mercy. Also god allowed the soldiers to rape the women they choose. By todays standards most would agree this was an evil act...these were not people like the egyptians who may have warranted punishment....God also permits slavery in the bible...how is this a god that is always good and fair?

People who said this was an act of man and not of god, obviously you have no knowledge of the book you follow. Its very straightforward about the fact that it was done FOR god, at his command...

thanks for the answer queenie, i almost drowned in all this denial people are spewing...although surrealcoyote good answer too...leads me to believe the way christians deal with the evilness of god is 90% deny it (even though theyre own holy book admits it) and 10% accept it for what it is and believe it was neccessary for some reason...

Wow. Are these people brain washed.
As to God really didn't allow rape in that particular case, there are other examples (including the much beloved j*ck*ss, Abraham-who 'allowed' his army minions to take their choice of the surviving females as their own...btw, when is it acceptable to a girl to be forced to marry someone who killed her family?) I'm sure there are other examples of mass killings ordered by such a 'loving' deity in the OT, another verse explains how it's ok to beat someone until they can't get up for a few days, as long as they get up, if their your slave, the reasoning being that it's your property...
It is eye-opening to see how these people will make-up/find excuses to support the idea of a 'loving' God

God is in fact always good.... people aren't. There has been a lot of fanaticism and people doing terrible things in God's name, but that doesn't mean that they're right. We as humans have free will... God can't make us do anything, and often times allows for bad things to happen. This doesn't mean that He isn't good, but when we were kicked out of eden, that's the world we chose. Still, God often uses trajedies and terrible things for good... but even though it would be fantastic if nothing bad ever happened again, that isn't the world we live in and satan is on a very long leash indeed. The question you're asking is the classic "Why does God let bad things happen?", but it's exactly that... He's not bad or vengeful, but allows bad things to happen, and we're not going to fully understand until we're with Him, for "who can give council to God or know what He is thinking?" Make no mistake, the wicked will be punished, but while we're all here on this earth, some people choose to do evil, and will be held accountable when they leave this world. Blessings,

Brian

Unfortunately your statement is incorrect on many fronts. First, they were not allowed to rape the women. That is something you made up and is very intellectually dishonest. Secondly, if there is a God, then everything belongs to Him, so He can do whatever He want to with that land. Third, these WERE historically pagan peoples; therefore NOT innocent. Fourth, aren't you assuming a moral law in your question? Aren't you, in essence, stating, "It is morally wrong of God to do what He does if He exists?" Therein lies your problem. You cannot assume a moral position unless you acknowledge a moral law. If you acknowledge a moral law, you must acknowledge a moral lawgiver. That lawgiver cannot be you or I, because who are we to tell other people what to do--we're just humans. It cannot be society, for it is STILL made up of imperfect humans. Whomever the lawgiver is would have to be innately good, otherwise morality would not exist. The lawgiver must be God. Since God is the lawgiver, and the lawgiver must be morally good, God is morally good. There is no escaping this.

As to taking over the land of Canaan, how did you expect them to get the land that God gave them? Oh sure, the whole peace treaty thing is working REAL well with the Arabs and Jews now huh.

And the rape? No, not rape, they were allowed to take the women on as wives eventually. The only killing that took place of women and children was when they killed everything that lived in the town as a worship to God. Was it rough? yeah, it was. Was it harsh? Sure it was. Is God good? YOU BETCHA.

God is good, He is Light and He is Love. Because you can't your mind around that, you are confused.

God is good. Joshua was commanded to kill some of these people, because they practiced abominable and detestable things, which was evil in the sight of God. He created mankind in His image, therefore they were defiling His name. Not Canaanites were killed. some they made into drawers of wood and water. maybe thats all the mentality they had to do that. God did permit the Israelites to take slaves, but they were to be treated with respect and at the end of seven years set free. the Israelites were supposed to be an example of how to treat people decently, so that those slaves would learn that they also were loved by God.

It is better that one nation utterly perish than the whole world dwindle in unbelief. If they had been allowed to live then the chosen people would have intermixed with them and adopted the some of the beliefs of the previous residents. If that had happened then the chosen people would have dwindled in unbelief and eventually rejected the word of the Lord and the whole world would have perished without Gods word.

Study the Bible more about these people. Maybe your eyes will be opened instead of taken one or two verses and twisting the truth out of context.

God is always good. He gave man a free spirit and the ability to choose how we live our lives. That being said, you may choose to be good or bad. You and you alone are responsible for your actions!

Without evil/negative energy, there can be no positive/good. Without the bad stuff, you wouldn't recognize and value the good. It's a necessary part of life because you also learn this way.
