Well, I'm a very emotional person as it is and yes, the first time I left my son at a sitters I did. Some friends that were in town visiting wanted to go to a bar (not to get drunk but to hang out and listen to the band). The entire time, I talked about my son and showed pics of him and his daddy (in Iraq at the time).
It's so much worse now that I'm pregnant again. My son is 13 months and I'm 3 months along. Some friends got me and my husband tickets to this great concert three hours away. When I dropped my son off with another friend, I was bawling before I even made it back to the car. I cried most of the way there until my friend called and put my son on the phone. I think it was harder on me than it was on him!

OH YES! That is just part of being a Mom. The first time I left my son at daycare I cried so hard I had no make up left. My husband cried too. So it is not just Moms. It got no easier with the second one, cried all day at work.
I cry at the thought of my kids growing up and leaving home & I have a good ten years before the 1st one leaves LOL! I like my alone time too, but I'm always happy to see them.

Oh yes they do - well I do. I have a 3 year old boy and he stays with my parents because we do not have reliable help to take care of him. Now he is ready to go to school and hence will join us. I have spent 2 years away from him and seen his babyhood pass by from long distance. I talk to him 3 times a day or more and he knows who is parents are etc. when we see families with kids in malls etc, it is heart wrenching. I am not apologetic of focusing on my career but yes I missed the baby days of my first born. it hurts - you bet it does... And on a closing note even fathers have separation anxiety...

Yes,we do... I cried all the way to the bus stop when my daughter started her first day of preschool while I was on the phone with my husband... and that was 7 years ago and I still get emotional during her first day at school....
My son is about to start preschool next month for the summer.... believe me I can say that I'm preparing for that first day....

But I just think that it's a realization that your little baby is growing up.....

I remember when my kids were still young, and being that it was just my husband and i , when ever we got time for us, i would cry, or even find that all we did was talk about the girls, should we call home, what if, should we run home and check, as time went on and they got older, i began to see that mommy did need a break and they were okay and it was okay to be away from them

YES! I think that is completely normal. Especially if the baby is still very young. You may even just be nervous about someone else taking care of the child. I hope you feel better.
