If within the city a man comes upon a maiden who is betrothed, and has relations with her, you shall bring them both out of the gate of the city and there stone them to death: the girl because she did not cry out for help though she was in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbors wife. - Deuteronomy 22:23-24 NAB

Look in the KJV and see the difference...

Deut. 22:23-24
If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto a husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; [24] Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.

This is adultery. First, she is about to be married, and nowhere does it say that she is forced to lie with the man. In God's eyes, both are guilty of adultery.
She was to be reserved for her future husband. They are both guilty of fornication. There is no indication of rape here.

While there are many situations in life that people need encouragement to ask for help, this whole passage just seems wrong on multiple levels. Perhaps it made more sense for the time, though I doubt it.

Personally, in my life, a belief like "the Bible is absolutely perfect and each and any passage taken out of context or in context is a command from God Himself" has detracted from, rather than added to, my Faith. As this belief does not produce good spiritual fruit, I discarded it. Others may differ, but this view preserves my spiritual well-being.

That is a poor interpretation. Unfortunately, the likelihood is that you don't care and are desperately searching for a reason not to believe the Bible. This can be obviously taken to mean that the crying out for help would be a test to see if she WAS raped, for what rape victim would not fight back in some way, even if only that? If no cry for help came, then it can be reasonably inferred that adultery was taking place. In Israel at the time, they were ruled by theocracy, meaning God gave blessings directly, and punishments as such. Deal with it. :)

no longer all rape victims cry out. some are afraid. some face an assailant with a weapon or overpowering pressure. or perhaps with if it were no longer rape, the theory that stoning is deserved is barbarous. back the following is an get jointly of social values that existed in yet all over again and position. yet would not this nevertheless ensue in some places in the international, like Saudi Arabia?

Well, yeah, cause she MIGHT have enjoyed it, since she didn't yell out for help. *Sigh* I know, a lot of these laws are so primitive. Makes one wonder who anyone survived during that time, doesn't it?

And she wasn't a tramp or else it wouldn't have said Maiden who is betrothed. I really wish people would learn to friggin read.

However if she is raped in the countryside she is without sin because no one can hear her cry out. Sometimes it is OK for the man to pay so much money to the father and then take her as his wife and she won't be killed.

Again, this another Mosaic Law. It helped get things in order for the Jews, they are not to be used today.

I love how people blame YOU for posting this, as if you wrote it, or something. They will do everything in their power but admit that their bible is nonsense. The spin jobs that people try to pull to protect their delusions are truly amazing.
