Hippies in the sixties represented a counterculture, a questioning of traditional or mainstream ideas, lifestyles, and politics. Their prevalence was the result of the confluence of short-term political and demographic events, suchas the war in Vietnam, the Civil Rights movement, and the end of the baby boom period.
In large part the Hippies questioned the establishment because they felt the establishment was unfair to them (ie requiring them to go to war). Later in life many hippies became part of the establishment, embracing many of the mainstream ideals they questioned when they were younger.
Mexicans have become not only a demographic but political entity in this country. Their numbers make them visible and potentially threatening to some. At the same time they are attacked by some in the mainstream due to illegal immigration or general xenophobia.
At the same times, many Mexican carry very traditional "family values". Along with other Latinos, 40% voted for George Bush in the recent election.
Like any immigrant group coming to this country, such as Irish, Italian, Polish, Chinese, Mexicans face criticism and discrimination until they are more integrated into society. While hippies seek to challenge the mainstream, many Mexicans seek to become part of the mainstream.

Hardly! The only thing in common with hippies and the people of mexico is their ability to live with little or no money. A hippie was a drop-out from society at large. An immigrant is seeking to better a personal situation for the benefit of self and family. What connection do you see?

No. Every immigrant population goes throught what the Mexicans are going through now. the Irish, the Italians, the Asians, the Poles, every population. The biggest issue with the Mexicans is that the previous immigrant populations had to learn to become American, and this does not appear to be happening.

The term "Hippies" was originally given to the band of youth who
flaunted age-old ideology, respect for the family, religious beliefs,
and challenged the world by their anti-establishment norms & beliefs, somewhere during 1960s."Woodstock"at California USA
symbolised their begining. They vowed to live differently with use
of drugs, free love, music, unkept hair, public nudity/sex,etc.
And the Mexicans? They are just honest folks as folks all around the world. They are mainly downtrodden by their neighbour,USA, who fears loss of employment in the already deplected job resources & fear that Mexican immigrants will worsen their situation.
No. Absolutely not hippies. Not new, not old.Just honest folks.

Most of the hippies were legal citizens who hated America and many of them wanted to leave.
Illegal immigrants love America so much they break in illegally.

What a stretch!
I bet you just insulted a huge number of middle age, former hippies who are now attorneys, doctors, business owners and tax payers....who, by the way, support the illegal invaders.

I don't know, but I'm sure I won't have any problem finding them to ask them your question, I'll study up on my Spanish so as not to offend any of them with my foreign language.
