SO many angry answers. I don't care if there is a reason or not to create a stone like this. The question still is legimate. Answering question by most innacurate logic that ppl does is sayin he does not need it. The question if can or not? So before some one jumps to say something smart at least they should try to think. dah..

Yes, He can. No matter how light the stone is. Even if it is a small pebble, He could make a commandment that nobody must lift it. By making such a commandment then not even He can lift it.

Can God almighty create a thing which he cannot destroy?

God cannot do anything and everything. There are so many things that God almighty cannot do.

Can God be born? One of the characteristics of God is that He is not born. If we say that God almighty was born, then there was a time when He didn't exist. And if there was a time when He didn't exist, For Him to come into existence, somebody has to make Him exist. So there is somebody else who is really God not Him. If we say that God almighty cannot be born, we are also saying that The Creator cannot become His creation. Because creation means what is in need of a Creator. To you be a creature, means that there has to be someone who create you. So if God became His creation, that means He is now in need of a creator. THIS IS IMPOSSIBILITY AND ABSURDITY!

Can God create a stone which is too heavy for Him to lift?
God almighty cannot be unjust. The moment when God become unjust, he ceases to be God. Because it's one of quality of God almighty that he is JUST.

The Qur’an says:
"Allah is never unjust In the least degree." [Al-Qur’an 4:40]

God cannot be cruel.

God almighty cannot throw me out of his domain. He can obliterate me. He can kill me. He can vanish me. But he cannot throw me out of his domain. WHERE WILL HE THROW ME? Everything belongs to him.

God cannot create a tall-short man. Yes he can make a tall man short. But no longer will he remains tall. But you cant have a tall-short man. You can have a medium man, who is neither tall nor short. But you cant have a man who is tall and short at the same time.

nowhere does the Quran says that God can do everything, Quran says in several places that God has the power over all things. There is world of a difference between "Allah can do everything and Allah have the power over everything"
Allah says in holy Quran (85:16)
"He does what He intends (or wills)"

Whatever he intends he can do. But God does only Godly things. He does not do Ungodly things.

When we muslims say "God almighty can do all things", we are talking about all things that are consistent in Him being God. Not included the absurdity, impossibility and the things which make "God" no longer "God".

ISLAM HAS LOGICAL ANSWER FOR THIS QUESTION

EDIT >>>>>> ==============================...

"His command when He desires a thing is just to say to it, “Be!” and it is." (Qur’an, 36: 82)

What a weird question. I hear it often, but fail to see the point of it. It is like the question "If you go into the past and kill your grandfather ..." It is a paradox that cannot be answered. Why would anyone create something the cannot lift? Besides, there is a huge difference between strength and power.

I'd suppose if God writes the rules, even the basic ones like "If a=a, then a=a..." then he can change them as HP sees fit.

So, why not? The question is, "who cares?" Does God being able to answer an annoying, overly-repeated question make him more or less able to add to my day to day life? I don't know, but God's stone lifting and creation abilities don't really come into play in my day to day life.

I just love this question- Can God create a stone he cannot lift?

I love it. I don't even know if I have an answer, I just love how it makes you THINK. So many people these days are closed minded and they refuse to think about things. Questions like this make you pause, and ponder the world and what you truely believe in. Thanks for posting this.

God is all powerful & the very cause of creation
He has created the entire universe & He controls everything. So there is no question of His own creation which He can't lift or do anything as he pleases.

I use to ask the same thing and I found a scripture that says something about the things of God and the whole knowledge of God will never be ours on earth, I guess somethings we will find out when we get to heaven when Jesus returns.

An inanimate object becoming infinite, impossible. How can an inanimate object be infinite? As God is infinite, the stone would also have to be greater than infinite. Perhaps you should ask if God can create something that is greater than He.

The question was legitimate the first 480,000 times it was asked. And it goes along with the "burrito so hot he can't eat it" question. You're getting angry answers because everybody snapped from hearing this question just one time too many.
