how do they get the words to go all the way through in a stick of rock?

I've seen them do it, and its even weirder than you'd guess. At the seaside there used to be rock factories where you could watch them make the stuff.
They roll out a huge rectangular slab of rock that's pink on the bottom layer and white on the top layer. Then they get some long strands of red rock , flatten and shape them and put them on the white layer. Then they roll the whole thing up like a Swiss roll, and its really thick, you couldn't put your hands around it; they carry on rolling it thinner and thinner until its as thin as a stick of rock. Then they cut it into lengths and somehow all the letters are readable.
They do it so fast, the red bits don't look anything like letters, they just look like long bits of rock. Get some Plasticine and try it. You'd have to think about how it'd look if you slice through it, so a 'c' would be some red wrapped around some white, cut a slice out of it to see the letter 'c'.

Really small people with tiny hands have to slip them inside the rock after its been made. They do it in the middle of the night just like in the story about the shoe maker!!!
