"Lord, make me a channel of Thy Peace -- that where there is hatred, I may bring Love -- that where there is wrong, I may bring the Spirit of Forgiveness -- that where there is discord, I may bring Harmony -- that where there is error, I may bring Truth -- that where there is doubt, I may bring Faith -- that where there is despair, I may bring Hope -- that where there are shadows, I may bring Light -- that where there is sadness, I may bring Joy.
Lord, grant that I may seek rather to Comfort than to be comforted -- to Understand, than to be understood -- to Love, than to be loved. For it is by self-forgetting that one finds. It is by forgiving that one is forgiven It is by dying that one awakens to Eternal Life."

Some people say "Why doesn't God stop people who are doing evil?' In giving us free will, God allowed the possibility of us making evil choices, in the hopes that we would freely choose good. For good to exist in the world, and for evil to be stopped, God relies on us. God will help and sustain us and with God we can accomplish far more than we could all by ourselves, but God also needs us as his instruments. Why? Because that's how he set it up because he wanted us to be able to love him freely, not under compulsion. God suffers when humanity suffers, like parents who suffer when their children make bad choices, but he needs us to freely chose to do good and love him, so he does not violate the free will he gave us. He might try to set things up to encourage people in the right direction, where he can, which is one way he uses us as channels to help each other. Sometimes, we will not even be aware how we have been used. The more we consciously allow God into our life and invite him to use us to help others, the more power we give him. It may seem odd that the all-powerful being needs us, but that's the way he set it up.

That's what I've figured out over the years.
