If you find out the name of the drug maker, many have forms which those unable to afford the drug can fill out along with their doctors signiture and information and they may well be able to get them cost free though some doctors may charge a small fee of ten dollars for the paperwork it is well worth the effort. Speak with their doctor as they are undoubtedly aware of such programs.I successfully did this for my mother who has alzheimers disease and needed some expensive medications. Give the doctors office a call concerning this first for help, they may well already have the forms available or can get them faxed to them from the pharaceutical company. You can also contact your nearest social security office for extra help with payment of the new prescription drug plans and also it often will pay for their part B medicare monthly bill. I did that for myself and its helped tremendously.

I got some help from the drug companies when I had no insurance to cover my medication. One helpful site is https://www.pparx.org/Intro.php. They have an online application for a lot of the major drug companies. Also, it helps to look up which drug company manufactures his medicine and go to their website/call them. Your pharmacist may also have some suggestions.
The application process is a lot of work, but is worth it for the free medicines. You have to have your doctor/social worker/nurse/someone who works with the doctor fill out some papers, but like I said, is all worth it for the help.
He may also want to try for medical help/disability from the state. Either contact Social Security office in your area, or your local medicaid/medical assistance office.
