It's not over-reliable but look at the amount of crustiness on it's legs, beak, and cere (The patch of nasal skin above the beak.) If they look white and crusty, and the beak is chipped and damaged its possible your bird is old.

However, If you have a very young budgie its eyes will be totally black, and lack the coloured Iris of the adult bird. A young budgie will also often have black head barring right up to the edge of its cere. It will also be very active and fast.

You can also tell really old budgies as they just sit on the perch, or on the feeding station and sleep a lot! XD

Well you obviously can't ask it as it can't talk, you can't but it in half to count the rings (still laughing at that one) as that would kill it and that would be a bad thing ...

Best way is to look on it's birth certificate, if you don't have it available pop to your local library as I'm sure it will be on the census information :o)

Ask it when it's Birthday is, it may tell you. They like people about their age and will sometimes lie about the year.

a serious answer...on a young bird the eyes are mostly black with a ring of yellow...as they get older the black part (in the middle of the eye) gets smaller.
