By all means avoid wearing white, Ivory and off white. This is the bride's day and she is the only one that should be wearing white to the wedding. Wearing the above colors as a guest would be extremely rude and unappropiate.
All other colors are acceptable to wear, depending of the season and if it's an evening or day affairs, outdoors or indoors.
Good luck

It really depends on what type of wedding it is. Everyone says don't wear black. But if it is black tie optional or black tie, then black is perfectly acceptable for men and women. For other types of weddings, I would avoid black. Now white is a most definite no-no. Ivory, beige, or cream also on the fashion don't list. Also, if you can, find out what color the bridesmaids dresses will be. Avoid that color too. That would just be tacky. Not that you can really help it, but I've seen it happen.
Also, try to avoid really bold colors and patterns. Big stripes, Big florals, bright colors will all make you stand out. Look for something muted. The best dress I ever wore to a wedding was a pink tea length dress with taupe lace over it. I still get compliments on it! And I still wear it to weddings. Pink is a great wedding color. I hope this helps.

Anything other than solid white/cream/ivory is fine. Black used to be considered unacceptable, but now is fine. Also, if you know what color the wedding party (including mothers, if they're coordinated) are wearing, it's best to avoid the exact same color since it can take away from the effect.

Any color can be worn at a wedding, including black. But it is inappropriate to wear white as this is reserved for the bride along.

You really shouldn't wear white because the bride is wearing it. I had 4 women wear white to my wedding - it didn't bother me but it's not polite.

As a guest or as a bride?
As a bride, I think the sky is the limit.
As a guest, no red or white (or similar colour) or maybe hot pink. No black before 5pm. No black if you are a close family member (it will look like you are in mourning).

If you are a female guest? Don't wear white or black. If you're a male guest then just try to steer clear of black but the rules aren't as strict for men as they are for women.

You don't want all black or all white, other then that you are free to wear what you wish! Black represents bad, and white represents pure. White is for the bride.
