Well, If you rent the house then you have fewer options. You can put rugs down and hang pictures.....
If you bought the house then the sky's the limit!
Paint. pull out carpet. take down walls.... Do things that say "this is where I live". If you hate it you can always do it over. It's your house so do what you like. If painting the kitchen red would make you happy then go fo it. I did!

Display items with sentimental value if you live alone. If it's with your family, participate in the family. Play games together, cook together, share chores and most of all talk to and listen to one another. Be gracious.
