I actually saw this advertised in a supermarket

I think it's usually marketed as reduced-sodium salt. It replaces some of the sodium chloride with postassium chloride. Just straight potassium chloride has a funny taste, but, mixed with enough normal salt (sodium chloride) your not supposed to taste the difference.

it's called nu-salt not sure what they use but it is similar to salt we use it in nursing homes for our patients with salt restricted diets

I don't know about that. If your looking for less sodium or no sodium, but don't want to sacrafice taste try Mrs. Dash.
