I have owned several dogs....I have only seen ONE that has actually buried it's bones. He always knew right where to find it too. Made me laugh....I thought it was only in cartoons!

You must not be a dog owner. Why I lived in a 3 story Apt. when my Yorkie was 8 months old. He would take his bone, walk to the corner of the room, set it down, start "digging" pick up the bone, put it in the "hole" take his head and sort of head-butt the dirt over the "hole" and walk away. Now that's a city dog!!! Too funny!
Now we have a yard where he does the same-just in the dirt!

Dogs will bury bones, food, etc to keep other animals away from them. I have seen my own dogs do this, so I know it is true.

I think it's instinct so that they have food for later. My Jack Russell is constantly burying bones and food. He even like to hid dog biscuits in the bed for later.

Yep, they do. I have caught my dogs doing it several times and then they dig them up either in a few hours, or a day. Very odd, I must admit but they enjoy it. I even see them putting the dirt back on with their noses, pushing it all until it is covered. Very, very odd behavior but they like to do it and they can find it after they have buried them all, even the raw hides!! Good question!! DOGS RULE!!

My Mom had a corgi mix that used to burry bones even like Milk Bones all over the place.
I think he thought he was hiding them from the other dogs.
