When your team has the ball, of course, the people serving must touch the ball...(no brainer), but then your team is in defense mode. Winning a point can be by blocking (hardest but easiest way) or digging the ball back to organize effective offense.

Once the ball is digged, the team transfers to offense mode which the setter becomes the brain of the team, she/he supposely always show at right place at right time to set the ball for hitters around her/he. The set could be 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 which ever is the best for offense.

Not one specific person is supposed to or has to touch the ball every time, but usually the setter will play the ball somehow.

the setter. the way it usually goes is; 1 player bumps it to the setter. the setter then sets the ball up for 1 of the hitters. the hitter then proceeds to slam the ball down the other teams throat. lol :)

Well you are suppposed to pass it to the setter as another player, then the setter sets to the middle hitter who hits it over, but it doesn't always work as perfectly as that.
