Most atheist are like a lot of evolutionist. Their mind is made up before they investigate. They refuse to look at any contrary factual evidence against their belief. They will only engage in debate with people who don't know what they are talking about. Its almost as though they are saying: 'don't confuse me with the facts-my mind is already made up'.

I have a feeling you don't really care given the little extra part you put on there, but here goes:

I was agnostic all through High School, kind of leaning towards atheism. I studied comparative religions in college and started seeing how many gods and interpretations of those same gods. Then one day I was sitting in front of my house and started thinking about thunder and lightning and how "cavemen" would percieve that to be from god but we now know it's just atmospheric phenomena.

Then it hit me that people still do that. They take something that science can't explain and have a "god of the gaps" to justify his existence. I became a confirmed atheist that day. Since then, I have encountered many more things to firm that belief.

But don't forget, it's prob genetic. if I had a different brain, i would believe. Chew on that one!

It's a nasty habit I developed that forces me to use reason when I make decisions. While it has made me the enemy to athletic Christian types, it has come in handy in scientific endeavors. Of course I understand the temptation to say, "Oh, why bother? God created it that way!" But that brings up my second bad habit; an unflappable curiosity to go beyond nonsensical explanations.

UPDATE: John S. Please enlighten us on this school of biological thinking that has overturned evolution. And please, please, try not to include the arguments re probabilities, thermodynamics, and the rest of that (so many times) discredited and shallow trivia. Given how unscientific you claim they are, I'm sure you can cite the biology & science departments that have seen the light & driven these evolutionist miscreants into the street. (I will not accept an answer that names some Pat Robertson type institution, OK?)

Every religion thinks that theirs is the one true religion. Every person is born an atheist; then they are taught to believe in god.

God was created out of necessity. Before science had advanced to it's present state, a lot of questions where unanswerable. Why is the grass green? Because god made it that way. Now we know that it is green because of chlorophyll. Why is it raining? Because god made it rain. What is that big glowing ball in the sky? Simple questions that they just had no idea about back then.

I don't consider myself to be athiest. I'm a non-believer. I follow no religion. Nothing "persuaded" me, I just got smart! Everything that I have challenged about this "God", has always ended up in "you just have to have faith". I do have faith. In my mother, in my children, but not in a supernatural entity that I've never seen or heard, nor witnesses any miracles or other spiritual phenomena. So, I've been a student of science for years and its what I trust.

Looking for truth. I wanted to believe in god and miracles.........Really! It just didn't hold up to rational thought. I have always been a leader or a loner. I never cared to "fit in". I feel badly for people that get caught up by predators like televangelists, psychics, & cults. I am proud of who I am. Truth is a noble persuit. Ironically, when people meet me in person they think I'm very religious. They are floored when I tell them I'm atheist. Again my answer is truth.

A visit to a local Baptist church when I was nine. Became an atheist within a short time.

John S, give it a rest. If you had factual evidence, there'd be no debate.
