I have to get my gallbladder removed. I have read that it is harder to break down fats, and you might get diareah for a while afterwards. I was just wondering if it was more likely to lose weight because of the diareah or gain weight because of not being able to break the fats down a quickly? Are there any other side effects?

I got my gallbladder removed 3/31/02. I did gain some weight after the surgery but that could have been because I didn't exercise...there could be many factors. If you don't eat bad then you really won't gain weight. At first, after the surgery, you need to eat VERY LIGHT fatty stuff because it was just removed. I didn't get diarrah but let me tell you, going to the bathroom after surgery HURTS. But will go away, I was not in pain after a couple of weeks. There hasn't been many sideaffects. The only thing I hate is sometimes my pants will rub near my belly button (where they took out the gallbladder) and it irritates my scar. Other that that you will be okay.
Just remember, just exercise and eat right and you won't have problems!
Good luck!

i do not imagine any individuals can inform you what checks you want to have ran. i trust merely your healthcare professional can do this. On a aspect note, even although clinical medical doctors say that having your gallbladder bumped off is effective because it heavily isn't needed, i do not trust. I had my gallbladder bumped off on the age of 18. i'm not 24 and each and every little thing interior me replaced when I had it taken out. I had to run to the bathroom when I ate for years because my foodstuff ran appropriate by me. Plus, my heartburn has gotten so undesirable that I have a puzzling time sound asleep because of it. i'm getting really undesirable abdomen aches that very last for a lengthy time period and in no way some thing I do can ease it. The gallbladder looks to have extra of a preventative purpose than any healthcare professional ever has made me comprehend, yet I wish I nonetheless had mine. i imagine i visit consistently wade through from extra issues of assistance from not having my gallbladder and others I have talked to have a similar issues I do.

The gall bladder is the storage site of Bile produced in the Liver. Bile contains bile salts which help to emulsify fats into tiny oil globules. This effectively makes the fats become smaller so that they can be digested at a faster rate (by enzymes). Diarrhea is, in fact, feces, which means undigested food. The fats that you consume will probably not be completely digested.

Therefore, the removal of the gall bladder will not result in you gaining weight, but there will be a decrease in efficiency of fat digestion and it means that you will have to watch what you eat to avoid a diarrhea

The fats that the galblader breaks down are active fats from food, not stored fats. To assure weight control limit the intake of fats to those of the omega group, which are found primarily in fish.

Yes, my doctor FAILED to mention that little fact before I had mine out. Not that I had a choice, the pain of the attacks was intense!!!!
No, you do not lose weight. I know of 11 people that had theirs out and none of them have lost weight due to it. They didn't seem to gain either. It is just a major annoyance. Sometimes you eat something and it is a race to the bathroom. If you have to get it out, then you have to. If I had a choice and wouldn't be suffering, I would have elected to keep mine!!!!!!!

gain fat, by the way you can't eat foods containing fat afterwards. but since you have to do it, you have to do it, there are no side effects, unless you follow a diet out of fats, otherwise you will have high cholesterol levels. good luck
