With so many varying standards in the world, why do all traffic lights use green/yellow/red?

To reduce traffic accidents. Amazingly this is the same all over the world.

I don't know but it is very interesting, however while I was in China and commented on the same thing, a guide told me that there are places in Mongolia that have the reverse rules. Red for go and green for stop. Just a bit of trivia for ya =)

To confuse the Irish and besides I htought they went red, yellow & green
