There are B batteries, and even A batteries, but virtually no one ever makes them these days. The letters are part of a standard for "single-cell" batteries devised by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) starting back in the 1920s. Today the standard sizes range from AAAA to G, and others (such as J and N). It's just that AAA, AA, C, and D were the only alphabetic sizes that became commercially popular. (The others haven't completely disappeared, though. If you open up a 6-volt lantern battery, you'll find a bunch of F cells.)

"B" batteries did exist, but that was a long time ago. They were working along "A" batteries where one couldn't work without the other, but with progress, they merged the "B" cells into "A" cells which gave birth to the "AA" batteries. At that point "A" and "B" batteries disappeared.
As far as I know, "C" batteries are no longer sold too, but I'm not sure.

B batteries exist. they are used for hearing aids. that they are used in this obscure way is probably why you haven't heard of them
