Far too many people have Bible, and wouldn't be able to explain the meaning of a passage, if you asked them. The book is meant to be read, understood, and the Word is to be put into practice daily in our lives.

This is one of the sad truths of America today. In to many homes, the bible is just a coffee book table that is there for looks, or to create a certain 'pious' environment in the house. But they just don't get opened.
I think this is very common.
In our house, there are probably 10 bibles. We have ones with pages ripped out. Some that we leave in the car. A really nice one that stays in the box all the time. But except for the fancy one, they all get read and that reading leads to blessings, enhanced understanding, etc.
For those who want to read their bibles but don't know where to start, I would recommend a free booklet that you can pick up in most churchs called Our Daily Bread. This little booklet is published quarterly and each day has a short devotional that you can read and a few scriptures from the bible called "The Bible in a Year". If you read them, after a year, you'll have read the whole bible. You can also read it online at http://www.odb.org
Don't start in Genesis and go through. When you get to the geneologies, you'll fall asleep. Start in the New Testament and read that first, then start reading the Old Testament after you have a better understanding of why Jesus had to do what he did.

I have so many Bible in my house. So many, I lost track. With all different sizes(pocket, mini, small, medium, big, huge), binding(soft, hard cover, leather), languages(english, chinese, spanish), version(NIV, King James, NKJ, Gideon, NLT, NAS...) and kinds(large print, study bible, bilingual, life application, etc.) I also have bibles install on all of my computers and PDA. You should find some time to read the Bible. When lost, grab a commentary with you. Add a pastor 's screenname to your yahoo messenger is a great idea. You will get a lot of wisdom from reading the Bible.

i have about 11 bibles, all different versions of the Christian Holy bible.
one of them, i read every single day, theres another travel sized one if im going out and have a small bag. its what i wont leave the house without!
the others are a reference. i tend to use the NKJV and if i dont understand something or want to study it further, i will refer to easier or more explanitory versions.
when i was little, we had childrens bibles lying around that i read alot... and there is usually old, hard to read bibles in most houses in the bookshelf, not everyone reads em but. they just have em there coz they got given them in hospital or from door knockers. its sad.
the bible, is probably the most powerful weapon, protective device, and councelling tool on earth and the easiest and cheapest available, its a shame ppl dont use it!

Bible is only a book, and the people who wrote it was only a writer. But what I care most is what inside the Bible that can tell us about hoping and believing in the name of God. Beacuse everything inside is true. Most the authors had related to Jesus Christ.
My family also like yours. They never read the Bible. But I can't be like them because I know there's a truth that God telling us inside His words. That I can find in Bible.

I got an old English bible. I was "forced" to learn about the Gospel back when I was studying in a famous catholic high school. I had little interest in it. But the Bible is a good story book, anyway.

Our Bibles are used often, in fact I get a little irritated that I can't find one for a special occastion that's not dog-eared and marked up lol.
I have one at my puter, by my bed, tucked into the ashtray of my car, on the side table next to the couch, in the bathroom, and a few reference type Bibles on the bookshelves.
