I know back in the 80s or 90s it was going to happen then it just faded away. I watch motor racing and see that they are now talking in kilometres. Was this recently re-introduced? Just curious.

I was watching the Champ car race and it was 225 miles ( 1 mile lap x 225) but they said it was x number of kilometres also. So thay covered that. I think I've also seen kilometres per hour speeds ( and -no - it wasn't from Canada!)

In the lab where I worked for many years, we used the metric system exclusively. If we would just go to it, things would be much easier. The Metric system is based on multiples of ten while the standard in America is based on many things and the English system is based on what? A dead king's physical dimensions?

The US has not gone to metric. When you see an event such as international racing, they refer to the measurement of the event in question. There still refer to auto races in the US as miles, they still use miles per hour and so on.
