I dont know I am trying myself. every week on monday I try again to quit. on tuesday I buy another pack. It is hard. I am getting better. though. just keep trying. Pick one day of the week where you are not going to smoke, but leave your self one or 2 emergency cigaretts for when someone will die if you cant smoke and try to make it the whole with out touching them. If you can great if not well try again next week. It takes practice.

If you tried patches and failed,it will be because you have not imagined hard enough becoming a non-smoker. You really have to want to stop. Don't try giving up alone. Many doctors' surgeries have Smoking Clinics. Make an appointment with the Practice nurse who will give you a range of choices, patches, chewing gum, etc. They also give you pamphlets that show the dangers of smoking. These and the nurse can provide some motivation. Also get your partner to support you - promise your partner you will give up for him or her.

The patches stop that feeling of deprivation that makes you touchy and bad tempered. You then have to keep telling yourself that you are now a non-smoker and that just one cigarette will get you back into the habit. The desire lasts only a couple of minutes.

Set yourself a fitness target as well. After a week without cigarettes, go swimming or cycling or whatever activity you will enjoy. After two weeks, get onto a fitness programme but don't overdo it.

This is not a load of bull. I smoked for 47 years and with all of the above working for me, I have quit and stayed off them for 18 months to date. You can do it! All you need is support of others and a stronger desire. Good luck.

first of all I think 'Smart's idea is really crept. Dont ruin ur health like that.
The biggest thing is ur own will-power. Whatever u use, u'll need ur strong-will power.
whenever u have an urge, try 2 think about the bad aspects of smoking like: You haven't got good stemna, u r not fit, bad test in ur mouth, will result as a bad, wrinkley skin, destroying ur health completely even if u smoke only couple of fags a day, can get lungs cancer, many other ver bad illnesses etc.
And take some chewing gum (any) or keep chewing any thing like chocolate etc.
Do some exercise.
Make a good motto of ur life.
Hope it will help

There are 2 important rules that helped me stop.

Don't tell yourself you will never smoke again... Tell yourself you won't smoke this summer...maybe until labor day ...Then on Labor day make the decision whether or not to quit until New Years eve etc. Thinking you'll never have another is the surest way to have one more "last cigarette"

Don't ever start at night. That is when I most wanted to have one. Tell yourself honestly that you have come this far, and one more night will not be too difficult..and if, when you wake up, you MUST have that cigarette...then have it. I was always so proud of myself in the morning for not having that cigarette last night...I didn't have it in the morning.

One sure fire method is to take a small baby food jar, fill it up with butts and then pour some water in there.
Screw the top down good and carry it with you.
When you feel the urge to smoke, take it out and look at it.
If the urge is still there, unscrew the top and take a whiff.

Trust me, that kills the urge.

Additionally, during your quitting phase, don't be without your smokes. Many times it's the panic that you are out that causes people to fail. If you have them with you then it's simply a matter of choice... You have them but you CHOOSE not to smoke.

I hear ya. I've been smoking for fifteen years -disgusting habit- and I've tried just about everything too. The patch is a joke. I too couldn't sleep wearing one, but the worst part was I got worse nic fits coming off the patch than if I'd've quit cold turkey. Gum is almost as disgusting as ciggies themselves, so scratch that one too. For wholistic remedies, I've heard good things about acupuncture, but damned if I'm gonna be used as a human pin cushion...not knocking acupuncture; I just don't like needles.

Honestly, I'd say cold turkey and willpower. If you succeed, you're made of stronger stuff than I am, bo...when cigarettes have been your number one defence against stress for fifteen years it's hard to quit, even though I've cut down to about six a day from a pack. Still...if I'd've known how hard it was to quit I never would have started, but I bet we all say that at one time or another...

you have to work out what keeps bringing you back to smoking & get that separated from your niccotine addiction.

I started smoking with weed and that got me addicted to tobacco.

I found ways to take weed separate from tobacco, then went cold turkey on the cigarettes.

Stopping smoking 25 roll ups per day was VERY hard, and now I will never have another cigarette, for I am a niccotine addict.

as for the weed? parties, holidays and generally when I feel like it...

...much better!

Do you feel as if you are a strong willed person?

Seriously, it is a mental challenge. After three days, the nicotine has left your system. If you go back to smoking after that, it was because you mentally failed.

You will feel like crap. Get over it. It will be hard. Get over it. If this is something you really want to do, JUST DO IT!

it is all up to you. it is about your strength and how bad you want to quit. I quit when i got pregnant it took me a month after i found out. Being sick from them helped also. But maybe start buying a really cheap brand or something you really dont like, like menthol if you smoke non- menthol, or non-menthol if you smoke menthol. just don't buy the kind you like. i just started to buy ultra lights and i got so frustrated with them that i quit. or go get unfiltered and smoke like 4 in a row to where you are sick and cant stand it anymore, and i bet you wont pick up anotherone that day and do it again the next day until the THOUGHT of any cigarett makes you want to hurl. not that i wish you sick or anything, but its like if you taste a food you dont like or makes you sick, do you try it again? hopefully this helps and i wish you the best of luck. remember it is all in your head, that you want one, just trick your brain. good luck!
