Partially it is because the excess of calories ingested, but also the products of alcoholic deshidrogenase (the enzyme that metabolize alcohol) are thought to be easier transformed to fat.... the approximate caloric content of 1gr od alchol is 7 Kcal, compared with 4kcal of 1 gr of sugar!!1 think about that :P

It is real simple. Beer drinkers consume too many calories and are sedentary. If you work out and keep your total calories in check, beer will not create a gut.
Remember the older you get, the slower your metabolism becomes.

I'm not 100% sure if that's true but I do have a lot of uncles that have that beer belly so I think it might have some truth to it. But I think you have to drink a lot of beer. My uncles, basically that is the liquid for the whole day.
