you don't need a visa for macau but if you cross the border into the mainland. which Guangzhou is, then you need one. It's always a good idea to get one ahead of time, however it's really quick and easy to get one in hk (hong kong) too. you can get a cheaper one on Nathan Road in Kowloon at the china travel service office right across from the famous chungking mansions but you have to wait a day. If you drop by the hunghom train station you can get one for about twice the price in just a few hours. you can take the highspeed train right from that station up to Guangzhou in just an hour and a half. Guangzhou (GZ)may have some of the best shopping in the world. bar none. once in guangzhou you can renew visas for REAL cheap near Haizhu bridge. there's a big gov office there. the american consulate is right next to the GZ train station and the IKEA

If you don't need a visa for Hong kong then you don't need a visa for Macau. The visa rules are almost the same, but if you want to go to Guangzhou that is in Mainland China. To enter China you need a visa. So if you want to go to Guangzhou or any other places around there you should apply for a Chinese visa.

Definitely you need a visa to mainland china unless you are a citizen in china.
Hong Kong and Macau have the same rules.
If you don't need a visa to HK then you don't need for Macau.

its very easy to get a visa in hong kong to visit mainland china, depending on what country you're from, which you should check before coming. after that, there shouldnt be any problems but do some research on how the conditions attached to each country in obtaining a visa for china, also the requiremtns, e.g. for a visitor (L) visa, you need a return or onward ticket or a plan of future travel before your visa expires, e.g. print out some flights from beijing or whatever to prove you are not planning on out staying your welcome!

It depends which country of passports you are holding. You probably do not need a visa to Macua but will most likely need one to Ghangzhao.
