Written, selected, edited, changed & falsified, several different versions no original as there was never any pure original Bible. How can this hodge podge and travesty of a holy book be any kind of moral guide.

♫♪~ Diana ♥, if you've reached the level of spirituality that allows you to communicate directly with God as you seem to be saying, what do you need a ridiculously out of date compilation of cobbled together pieces of edited and mucked about with writing...you can go straight to the source apparently...well done you!

Narvypuda, hauling out the old circular arguments, quoting the Bible to prove the Bible is a bit childish.

Padre, why the pretence that God had any input is my question, you are being evasive.

Hey, Earth, while there’s obviously length limitations to this type of forum, your question was phrased so broadly that I’m wondering where you derived your ideas from.

I mean, you don’t even give any credence to a BASIC argument from the other side -- the Dead Sea Scrolls discovered over 50 years ago, which showed a text of Isaiah and other OT testament books (plus some other documents) that showed the transmission of the OT over the last two thousand years to be extremely accurate, aside from cosmetic errors. And that’s only the tip of things.

Personally? I believe that God inspired people to write what they wrote, much as people write nowadays about their experiences with God. In terms of the NT canon, the church evaluated all the documents being passed around and selected what they thought were the most accurate in terms of origin as well the spirituality that had been passed to them and that they had experienced as authentic themselves.

It’s rather uninspired for you to take a completely cynical view of this process, since the book industry today monitors itself in a similar fashion (critics reviewing what comes out, we decide some books are less authentic and other books are more accurate based on what we know, etc. – it’s just how the process works, no conspiracy in place).

This discussion could continue for pages upon pages, but the bottom line: Your question isn’t even phrased like a question, it’s more of an attack and a “dare you to respond” comment – coupled with some rather demeaning replies to those who have annoyed you.

If you aren’t interested in hearing why other people believe what they do, then don’t bother asking the questions.

well, if you have not reached the level of Spirituality (like the prophets) that allows you to communicate with God... it's really hard to understand how God had any input in the bible.

However, we do know that the bible consists of half history book and half Spiritual Teachings. If you do the spiritual teachings, I'm pretty sure that you know everything reads love, peace, goodness, kindness, humility, self-control, wisdom, etc. All is the character of God. So, does God had an input? Definitely. He still has an input for us.

By the way, if you're wise, you will not care about my grammar or words, but the point that I'm trying to explain. It is of course up to you if you want to take it or not. =)

"out of date compilation of cobbled together pieces of edited and mucked about with writing...you can go straight to the source apparently...well done you!" = i always put the source below. check it out. other than that, it's my own thoughts.

If a the bible were written by men, why does it have the same point?? Talking about the same God?? Repeating the same teaching over and over again?? It sates on the same facts?? Why does it doesn't contradict itself?? Hav you ever thought of that??
The word 'Bible' means a collection of books. The Christian church as a whole proclaims that it is inspired by God! The thing is, the bible although was and is what it is, it was not always so... the books of the new testement for example was only found by christians 400 yrs after Christ and based on siantific facts, it was written only at lest 50 years after Jesus rose from the dead.

The church had little people who could read or write.. Jesus of corse at first attrcted the poor, the sick the uneducated...they had to gather at the synagoge(if they were Jews)on saturdays taht was the sabbath to listen to the old testement readings, and on Sundays in a private house to listen to the stories of Jesus of instructions or letters or epistles of the apostles.
The Christian faith was of corse outlawed at first. It had to be done in secret. Soon, the letters and the stories of Jesus spread by the few who could write through letters.

Who inspires these accurateness of the writters?? Luke for example was a disciple of Paul. He started writing the letter 20-30 years after Jesus rose. Tradition of passing stories is then the core of the Bible..
In the Testement, the begining of the world, who was there except GOD!?!? God was the only witness of the creation..the writter of the book of Genesis was inspired, clearly! The same with the book of Revelation... The name says it all.. It was a revelation to him..

GOD was and is thesole Authur of the Bible he just had different secretaries through the ages....with different ways of writing it in words...

The Bible was recorded by men upon inspiration of the Holy Spirit. To contend that God had nothing to do with what is in the Bible is to deny the very existence of God, thus making the Bible worthless and claiming that there is no hope for mankind. Withouts the legitimacy of the Bible being established through the inspiration of God not even evolution (a false doctrine) can be established. The fact that the Bible has been a source of belief and truth for thousands of years is prof that it is God's word. The fact that its prophcy has come true is proof that it is God's word. Give the Bible a chance to prove itself to you. Jesus loves yopu and died for you. Give him a chance in your life.

In my lovely Jewish faith we embrace the truth. Throughout history its been copied by hand. Over and over. A collection of stories to educate points and morality thru practice rather than to be taken as pure truth. Sure G_d did some wonderful things, but he didnt write his own book.

If you take it a step further, everything WE do is quite possibly done by way of G_d's will. Or perhaps he is acting THRU us. I'm sure that will either be disproven or confirmed by science one of these days. :) Anyhow..

I believe that whether or not some original being prescribes to any one faith.. everything has to start somewhere. Behind every lie is a half truth. We will find out, someday.

In the meantime, there are plenty more important things to worry about besides tiny details.

Although honestly.. I dont know how christianity is expected to continue. Christians are expected to believe. Jews are expected to know. It isnt considered a sin or heresy to question our past, our beliefs, or any notion of history. At least.. to the chosen people. :)

Anyway, bibles were written by men. Changed over thousands of years. From translations to different perspectives.. its just not the same. Its a guidebook. A collection of stories. Take it as you will but see the deeper meanings. Shalom. :)

First, "We all know the Bible was written by men" isn't a question-- it's a statement of your personal belief.

While it's clear that you disagree, tens of millions of people have believed for centuries and even millenia that Scripture, in its original form, was directly inspired by God.

There is a tendency in this modern era to discount anything that people believed in the past, as though we are now smarter than any human beings who preceded us. We aren't smarter; merely more technologically advanced, which is not the same thing.

I, for one, have trouble with the kind of pride required for me to believe that I'm smarter than our ancestors, and when I look at what our much-vaunted science and technology is doing to the planet I find myself wondering if nuclear weapons and global warming really constitute "smarter".

[And as a 'P.S.: There's a story that asks, "How are a dead atheist and a dead believer the same?" "Now, they both know there's a God."]

It only apears to be pretence to those who do not have spiritual understanding and do not know the lord....as much as the may upset the non-believer God owes him nothing and God chooses who he reveals himself to and these are those who see value in him and deligently seek him...therefore a non-believer cannot understand spiritual things as he has no holy spirit to guide him....now being he is spiritualy blind he cannot see God therefore wrongly reasons that he does not exist.

The Bible was written by men by inspiration of God. You cannot understand or believe this because you lack the faith to do so. You simply deny God but He still loves you. He will attempt to get you to believe and turn to Him but the choice is ultimately up to you.

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness," 2 Tim. 3:16 "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." 2 Peter 1:20,21

It wasn't just written out of the blue. It is considered to be inspired by God. IE, someone may have had a religious experience and written about that. Or inspired by the oral tradition of others' experiences and influences of God.
