Go to the bookstore and buy a book by Fodors. Its a travel book on where you want to go. Its written by a man who has been there. It tells you the best hotels. places to go and best restaurants. Firstly, rent a car. The bus system stinks and the metro only gets you to a limited area. Go to tripadvisor.com and select a hotel based on the reader's recommendation. Not all parts of LA is good, and stay away from Hollywood as a hotel area.

If you have to recommend someone who's visiting LA, in the summer, besides visiting the coastline full of beaches, there's Universal Studios, and you can even try being in the audience in a TV or Game show by checking "audiences unlimited".. If you are daring, try getting tickets for the Tonight Show or the Jimmy Kimmel show. You got to get there early but its fun and worth the time.

The Chinese Theater in Hollywood Blvd has the famous hand prints, and if you're in town for a movie premiere, check out the celebrities walking down the red carpet.

LA has historical places to visit and ethnic places like China town and Olvera (little Mexico) Street. You can also go and see the expensive shops on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills or the famous Farmer's Market near the CBS studios.

If you like Comedy you can check out one of the many comedy clubs on the Sunset Strip, check out the Hustler store, and if you are near the Flynt Publications building, sometimes you can see Larry Flynt's limo (you really can't miss the naked woman painted on the limo!). The West Hollywood area is the gay mecca and you can really see some great eye candy (if you're a gay man or straight woman). Melrose Avenue has some quirky shops and great restaurants!

If you like sports, the LA Dodgers are playing during the summer. In August the X-games are at the Staples Center.

If you travel further south to Orange County, (45 minutes south from downtown LA) you have Disneyland, the Angels baseball, and Knott's Berry Farm. You can also visit Newport Beach and see the area of the 'real' OC (as on MTV) Laguna Beach.

Further south you can visit Legoland (for kids) and there's the outlet shopping in Carlsbad. Head 1 hour further south and you hit San Diego, and then 1/2 hour you are at the Mexican border.

There's some of the "must see" that I would suggest to someone visiting.

actual contain a visit over to Catalina Island. The 40 5 minute boat holiday is exciting, and the city of Avalon is sufficiently small to ascertain all of it in a unmarried day. positioned on comfortable shoes, you'll specifically be strolling. also write for tickets to the taping of a television software, which includes "the price is ideal", you're a contestant and win a sparkling automobile. it really is exciting to ascertain all the "in the back of the scenes" stuff that is going on to make T V exhibits. also make a reservation to bypass to Griffith Observatory after darkish so your relations can seem out over merely distinctive the light fixtures that make up the l. a. basin. Welcome to l. a., and experience your visit. i will also allow you to understand places to maintain away from, and do not mission off the important streets; Compton / South critical L.A., East l. a., Korea city, aspects of l. a. I often have family visiting from out of state and out of the country (from the Philippines). My folks like to take them to the typical tourist attractions (disneyland, knotts berry farm, universal studios, magic mountain), but I prefer taking them to more scenic, relaxing places. A drive through the mountains in the Angeles Forrest, or a picnic overlooking the pacific ocean in Palos Verdes is always fun. It all just depends on what you like to do and see. If the crowded tourist spots are your thing, then go my parents route and add Hollywood to your list. You'll have plenty of pictures to take either way you go. Have fun!
