Seriously, I only want someone to answer who really knows. I know it sounds naive, but I have no idea what happened in Haditha, so I like to believe in a little thing I call "Innocent until proven Guilty". Or Another one: "Do not detain suspects unless you have a crime to charge them with" Having said that, I would like to write these guys or something I'm frustrated and feeling helpless and horrible that we've deserted the very men we are supposed to be supporting the most. I want them to know that there are a LOT of people that are on their side, simply because we DON'T know what happened there;; We have bodies and an eye witness who is an Iraqi and a two year old Iraqi girl.

I'm hearing that they are being kept in jail, in shackles 23 out of 24 hours. It's on the radio and the TV news, one of the guys father was being interviewed and HE said the same thing...('cuz I know if it's on TV then it MUST be true, yes? :)

I think it's sweet that you think I'm such a simpleton that I believe everything that's on TV! It was an interview on TV with one of the fathers, plus the lawyer for another one
and of course I allowed myself to listen to devil radio: Limbaugh, Savage, Hannity. It was the confligration of these sources that led me to believe it was true. I would love to believe what you're saying is right I have no reason to think otherwise and all I really want is that no harm fall on these guys, I wasn't there I don't know what happened, but it seems like a huge rush to judgement to have them treated anything less than honorably. Why don't people like you guys speak up when this vitriol is being spewed amongst the airwaves?

Contact the public affairs office for Camp Pendleton, they will give you insight, they are not in military prison since nearest one is in Miramar, most likely confined to base and quarters.

Their lawyers have been on TV, you can write to them. As for the rest, troops are subject to different more strict laws. They do not have all the rights you do, not exactly anyway, it's very complicated. The short version is that they can be held restricted to base or quarters w/o charge while an investigation goes on. That's a different thing than jail though, just so you know. They are technically innocent until proven guilty, and they have a better chance of a fair trial with a military court than civilian jury, but that legal/moral breach occured when information was leaked to the press before charges were filed - that's messed up, but typical these days.

if they have not been charged then they are not in jail or in shackles. the military does not do that. They are just confined to base and to their barrecks. unless you know them then you will have no way of contacting them unless you get ahold of their company commander
