God is the Spirit of Goodness. So He cannot be not good. He is good Himself. People are not God. Sometimes they cannot be good.
Preachers and ppl who say that God is not Good, really, misguided. They also try to misguide other ppl.
God uses various methods to help us. No where in the bible that people do not use medicine (it's been invented since day 1 - herbs and all). However, there are also miracles. Only select few experienced miracles. There is nothing wrong to keep on praying for a miracle and take medicines. Those who say that medicines are wrong are misguided.
poor/rich, beauty/ugly, smart/dumb, popular/unpopular, powerful/powerless are irrelevant to Jesus' purpose coming down to earth from Heaven. He only concerns about good/bad. He wants people to know that God is good. He teaches people how to be good. He heals people because He is God. He loves us!

God does wish for people to prosper and be well in fact he sent Jesus to us so that we could live forever....but we are not yet in paradice and all things in this world are not good...yes Jesus healed the blind and did many healings to show what heaven was like and what faith can do....We live in a corrupt world it is not Gods will that the world is corrupt but man is sinful and through sin came a host of problems we have demons and illnesses and we ultimately die because of sin....now Christ died that we can have an everlasting perfect life...but this day has not yet come...and we now are saved by faith but he who endures to the end is truly saved.

That's an excellent question. Preachers do say the "God is Good" statement all the time, especially down here in the south. But I would like for you to think about something for a moment. If you did something wrong, did your parent's punish you? If so, that is what God is doing. Sometimes he has to chastise us and punish us by doing things that are not so good in order to get our attention; just to let us know that we are not doing the right things in our lives and that we ought to get them right.before it is too late. Besides, in reading the bible, those stories, according to Romans15:4, are for our learning so that we can have hope. Our hope is to one day have eternal life and live with the Lord in peace.
Another way of looking at such tragedies can be as a reminder that God is with us. Sometimes when we are stricken with illness, no matter terminal or otherwise, we always seem to question why? Why me, Lord is what we often say. Or when we say that perhaps it is not the Lord's will to heal you, it is to serve as a reminder to others around you who is really in control and is to make the person an example of how when the Lord brings you to something, he will bring you through it, no matter if it is death as the way to bring your through. Think about it. There is no more suffering, no more pain, and no more dealing with things that cause stress.
Clearly, you are correct when you said that the Devil has something to do with it as well. If you read the 1st chapter of Job, you will find an interesting fact...the devil had to ask permission from the Lord in order to interrupt Job's life. Same thing with us who are Christians (the way God calls us to be Christians). The devil has to ask permission from the Lord to interfere with our lives. This happens at times when Preachers say "the Lord sometimes allow things to happen in our lives in order to make us call on him and to remind us that it is he who made us and not we ourselves". At those times, it is us who think we have done something on our own or are attempting to take credit for something God has done in our lives. When we get sick and there is nothing anyone can do for us, that is when we turn to God. When there are several things happening in our lives to where we are questioning the why me questions and it seems as if no one or nothing can help us, we often turn to religion or to God in order to solve our problems. The lesson we can learn there is that God wants us to call on him no matter what. Not just in hard times should the Lord hear from us; he should hear from us in good times as well. He should be given the glory and the praise for anything and everything that happens in our lives. Think about it. If we only got called on by friends or family members when they were in trouble, we would feel severely underappreciated. Wouldn't it stand to reason that if we are made in God's image (Genesis 2) that he would feel underappreciated as well?
I sincerely hope that I have said something to aid you in your quest for knowledge. Let me know if I can be of more assistance to you in growing in knowledge of the Lord in the future.

Before I answer this question, I'd like to mention that I went and saw a Christian teacher speak on this very subject recently... and most of what I say will be coming from that and my further reading in the book of that speaker.
That said... I am inclined to believe that the truth can only be learned not through hearing it, but by taking what you have heard and putting it through the test of living it.
The speaker began by telling how he started down this path of learning through being encouraged to read a book by A.W. Tozer. The Knowledge of the Holy. Tozer started the book with this quote
"What comes to our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us."
In other words like the first chapter in the speaker's book "It's all in how you see it", and the title of the book is the challenge to start thinking about God differently, to see "God as he longs for you to see him"
The Goodness of God
Chip Ingram, the speaker and author, starts this chapter with a story from his college years about seeing the goodness of God displayed by the family of a young farmer, his wife, and children.
"Romans 8:32 "He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?" (KJV)
God used this West Virginia family and his word to correct Chip's vision of him.
Then he goes into Defining God's Goodness
"God's goodness points to the high quality of his work or the beneficial effects of his character."
Palm 84:11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD gives grace and glory; no good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly. (NASB)
God's goodness went beyond dictionary definitions when he started revealing it in person. One example is how God revealed his Goodness to Moses in Exodus 33 and 34
"I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence..." Exodus 33:19
God continues to reveal his goodness to us
Chip gives three specific channels God uses to broadcast his goodness to regular people.
- Through Natural Blessings (Psalm 145)
- Through specific deliverance (Psalm 107)
- Through God's Son, Jesus (Colossians 1)
Jesus reveals God's goodness in at least three ways
- the undeserved goodness he gives to us (Romans 5:8)
- the promise of future benefits (Romans 8:32)
- his unique role as Creator and Mediator between God the Father and his Creation (James 1:17-18, First Corinthians 1:20)
The author then goes into How we are to respond to God's goodness, How to see God's goodness as he longs for you to see it, and then provides some tools for transformation. Finally he gives a personal reflection on the goodness of God.
I want to clarify that I'm quoting the source listed below and that further information can be found within this book as to Goodness and six other attributes to God. I encourage you if something struck your interest in what I have to say... you can go to Chip's book as a guide, but eventually go to the source yourself... God has revealed much in his word, you just have to dig deeply to find the treasures that lie within it.
