I am getting braces soon and a palate expander. Can anyone tell me about how long the palate expander stays on and if it hurts? Also i have heard that alot of people get a space in between their front teeth because of it. Does anyone know how long this gap usually stays?

My name is Jessica and I had braces for 3 years and my teeth are perfect now.I never had a palate expander but I had oral surgery along with it to pull down my teeth that were imbedded in my palate. It was painful but I made it through.Just remember in the end you will have a wonderful smile and you will feel great.

My little sister just got her Palate expander in. She complained of minor pain the first night, but was fine the next day. Food gets caught in the roof of her mouth all the time, so she immediately brushes her teeth AND expander after each meal. Her Ortho told her that she should have it off in 3 months. Concerning the "gap" in her front teeth, she got it after wearing the expander for one week (she had to "crank" it twice a day). Be brave and good luck!

Pallete Expanders can be on anywhere from about three months to 1 year. I had one for eight months. It hurts alot and it is really annoying when you're eating. I have braces, they arent nearly as bad.

LISTEN,I should've gotten braces when I was yonger but I didn't,what a big mistake!! I'm not sure about a P.E.,but if a qualified dentist said you need them then you should get them. It's better to get them while you''re young and have good teeth than to wish you would've when you get older.
