Breaking up is hard enough to do. What is your idea for a kind and gentle way to tell someone that you don''t see yourself continuing on with the relationship? Please post your idea without regards to why you want to break up. Just know that for whatever reason, it's time and you're ready to end it. What would you do?

To the person that said the other will fell some sort of pain, I know that some pain will occur. I'm not ignorant of that. It's the UNnecessary pain that I'm looking to avoid.

Guys, you've been great but please realize that I know that any breakup will be painful. I'm looking for ideas to make the action more caring. Thanks to those who understand that I'm feeling bad enough about the situation but know that if one really cares about another then you don't have to be mean about breaking up.

Pain is a part of life, and no matter how softly you try to tell a person that you wish to break up with them, there is still going to be hurt and pain.
The best thing to do is to be honest - but not brutally so.
You tell the person that things are changing and not the same as when you first got together, so you feel it is time to move on.
Wish the people well and say you wish that things could have worked out differently, but now is the time to go onto bigger and better things. If you two stay together, you won't find that happiness that you once had and you both deserve great happiness and fulfillment in your lives. Not all relationships are meant to last, but many are stepping stones so now it is time to begain again to explore the possibilities.

The person will want to know why - and if you can express why you feel you want to move on, that would be good - even though the reason/s might hurt.
Better for you to move on if you feel this way than to keep the relationship going - you'll only succeed in making yourself miserable.

Good Luck and God bless.

hey, i had to end a long-term one. please know something - there's not much hope that you can be kind and gentle about it. you're sure to feel guilty about it, seeing the other person's face. but, i guess the best thing to do is just tell them as gently as you've written in this email (face to face, its only fair) that:

it's time to move on... you're sorry, it's not their fault. but you've just fallen out of love. it's nothing they've done or said... your feelings have just changed. they'll break down, but let them... if they have any questions, just answer them...

and no matter what, don't contact them for a couple of weeks after that. give them time to adjust, coz otherwise you'll just end up confusing them and hurting them even more. you might think that you need to be there for them as a friend, but seriously, that's a biiiiiiig NO NO... good luck!

nobody likes rejection. pain of some kind is innevitable. just be tactuful and honest. that's the kindest thing you can do if you're going to break up with them.

start with saying nice things like how good she is(well in other things that you liked once about her)then slowly tell her that it's just not working for you if you don't want to hurt her don't just start all about things you know you don't have agreement on it...and give her time to understand and if she was getting upset just don't fight with her ...this way you can nicely say good bye to her and you won't hurt her that much...I hope it helps
