The best operating system depends on what you're going to use your PC for. Linux users use Linux because of its stability, it rarely gets infected by viruses because of its FAT and it's not resource intensive. Windows users go for it for its ease of use, setup for gaming and compatibility. There are lots of Windows users. MAC users use it for its stability, it rarely gets infected by viruses, graphics and advertising and its outstanding form factor.

MAC OSX bootcamp then later partition your drive and install windows xp now u gt the best of both world

If you want to use most current software you are pretty much stuck with windows xp or the new media version.

For stability and safety -- use Linux.
For ease and compatibility with other softwares -- use Windows XP.
There are more window users than linux.
