Medical treatment

Many Christians admire Jesus for his healing powers yet few would go to a medical doctor today who used the diagnoses and treatment that he used.

Jesus believed that demon or Satan possession caused deaf-and-dumbness (see Matthew 9:32-33; 12:22; Mark 9:17-29, Luke 11:14).

A spirit of infirmity, according to Jesus, resulted from a bind from Satan.

He supposedly restored sight by spitting on the eyes of a blind man (Mark 8:23) or anointing them with clay made with spittle (John 9:6) or by telling them to have faith.

Note that Jesus failed to impart the scientific knowledge of germs or establish methods of preventing disease.

Although some Christian Scientists practice the methods of Jesus, the results have proved abysmal. If Jesus could cure disease and blindness, he failed to instruct men how to avoid these diseases.
Some Christians, in trying to extricate themselves from this difficult problem, claim that Jesus did not give us the medical knowledge

I have to agree that all biblical texts show behaviour that is illogical in a modern context (stoning a woman for wearing different types of cloth etc).

Much as I understand the problems the texts have to be either:

1. Accepted as cautionary tales from a time where there were different 'standards' and not an absolute manual for life; OR (and here come the flames)
2. Update the texts to more modern standards - should only take a 1000 years or so to get agreement between the factions.

I am not picking on Christianity ... I would guess all the other texts have similar issues. Overall go with the tune not the words of the song.

I have my copy of Bible 2.0 on back order at Amazon.

Peace out

i suppose people then were still rather superstitious and believed in this spiritual healing... some still do but with all the scientific facts that we have at our fingertips today it is not suprising ppl dont believe...
look at the phillipino doctors for example tho... thougsands still flock to them in the hope they will cure their cancer... or maybe it isnt hope just desparation.
im not sure what you are trying to say at the end... but you have got to keep in mind that these so called 'miracles' were documented in a text that is thougsands of years old... you never know how much hear say and pure exageration may have gone into these stories... but this is comiing from an atheists point of view after all...

Well NO one will be attracted to any religion if there isn't any miraculous gibberish.I'm from India and an example is Mother Teresa. she never claimed of performing miracles in her life time . but no after her death her followers all saying all kinds of nonsense about miracles she performed so that she is given the status of a saint. Well i think she is already a saint for her mortal deeds but its the way religion works. here people follow yoga teachers only when they claim of treating cancer by exercise .

so what are you saying? that we should not practice our modern day medicine because some christians interpret that from the texts of the bible? the christian scentists that tried to follow in the methods of jesus tried in vain obviously because they them selves were not jesus. disease happens, thats it it's not because of a binding with satan (good people get sick and die too) in summation, people today cannot spit on others to heal them because they are not "the son of god" plain and simple

My dear being a muslim when ever i studied christanity i find contradictions in the teaching. According to Islam we believe jesus as the messanger of God not the son of God. And in our religion All diseases are from God and It is God Who Give us health too.

Jesus was a Rabi. In those days it was common for people who had been sick to present themselves before a Rabi to be declared , WELL. The people Jesus saw did not have to be sick at the time he saw them, in Jewish eyes you were sick until a Rabi said otherwise.

As Muslims, we believe similarly except we have pure knowledge that it is only SOMETIMES due to devil possession.
