You should read Enoch. Satan/Lucifer was a seraphim angel. There are many different types of angels, but seraphim were the highest order, cherubim were the next highest. As you might have guessed, angels do not look at all like the beautiful paintings of cherubs you see. Read Ezekiel to see what they really looked like, quite odd looking to say the least. Satan got mad when God told the angels to bow to us humans, which kinda makes sense really, they were created first. Anyway, that's why Satan and 1/3 of the angels fell, pride. I'd quote you Enoch and Ezekiel, but am too lazy right now to look Ezekiel up and Enoch is so full of angels I wouldn't know where to start.

He was "the anointed cherub that covereth" (Ezekiel 28:14)

General concensus is that Satan was one of the highest tier angels who became jealous of humans and angry at God for the attention he spent on the creatures he made on Earth. Satan took steps for revenge, succeeded in getting some of his way, and was punished. (This is from Christian writings. I appologize I do not know if and/or how "Satan" is portrayed in other religions.)

While he might be God's enemy, Satan isn't actually God's direct opposite. After all God has ultimate power while Satan was suppose to have the power of an angel (which makes you wonder why God has angels in the first place, but I digress). Same case when comparing Satan to Jesus. Satan is more correctly the opposite of the Archangel Michael who is said to head of the angel army legions in Heaven.

Islam teaches that Satan is a Jinn, not an angel. Satan disobeyed God because he was a jinn and like human beings, jinns have free choice and reason. Some jinns are good, others are bad. The master of bad jinns is Satan (we call him Iblis in Islam). Angels on the other hand are ALWAYS good, never disobey God.

About angels:
1.God has created Angels out of light and gave them various duties to perform. (Jinns are a different type of creation and are made with fire.)
2. They are not visible to us.
3. They do not commit any sins nor do they disobey Allah.
4. They do what Allah has ordered.
5. We do not know their exact number.

Here are some links about it but u should google it for more info.

satan was an angel named lucifer. According to the scriptures he was the most beautiful and strongest angel in heaven. He was also the closest to God at all times. Yet, his pride and envy caused him to want to take God's place in heaven. Thus, he convinced 1/3 of all the angels in heaven to fight against God and his angels. Satan and his angels lost and were cast down from heaven into earth. Ever since satan and his demons have been trying to draw man away from God, but in the end the Lord Jesus Christ will gloriously Triumph over all!!
God bless

The Bible say's that Satan was an angel named Lucifer, and he was cast out of Heaven (along with a third of the angels) for their rebellion against God. Lucifer was the one who became the adversary of God & Christ due to his lust for power, ego, greed, etc. Satan has alot of power in the world, but will be cast into the lake of fire with his dominions when Jesus returns. Matthew 12:26, Mark 3:23 & Revelations Ch. 20 *You have a cool dog!

Job 2:1-6[Satan was with the Sons of God or angels, he was accusing Job of loving God only because he had everything he needed]; Job 38:4-7; they saw the foundation of the earth laid];
John 17:3,5,24[Jesus was with God before the world was];
Isaiah 14:12-14[Satan[the resister], wanted to be worshiped];
Matt.4:1-11[Satan wanted to boast of all he had];
Ezekiel 28:13-15[Satan was the cherub that was anointed over Eden, his time is limited since he became a resister to truth John 8:44; Luke 10:18; Rom.16:20; he will be cast to earth and barred from heaven, but he is the god of this world 2Cor.4:3,4; to blind all he can from the truth John 8:32; John 17:17; that can sanctify.
Rev.12:7-12[he accused truth lovers before God in heaven, but Michael who has handeled him Jude 9; Dan.10:13,21; and in the last days of tribulations will handle him Dan.12:1-13;
Rev.17:1-6,10-14[this is the world that Satan is in from Eden to Flood to Egypt #1,
Assyria #2, Babylon #3, Cyrus was in #4, Greece #5, Jesus was in Rome #6 and so was John in Patmos in Rome #6, Jesus was crucified and ascended back to God,
the World will get the bible in #7, and Jesus second coming will be in the 8th to end the world that Satan is in with his Rev.20:1-6; 1000 year reign. Eph.3:21; The world with Jesus never ends.

So Satan was bad and a resister from the beginning of his being anointed over eden, he told Eve that they would be as gods Luke 20:34-36[angels that do not die]; but God said that if they ate the fruit of that tree, they would surely die so John 8:44; applies to the deception of Satan who knew good from evil from the beginning. Gen.3:22;

His time is up 6,130 years after Eden.

In Islamic teachings Satan (Iblees) was an angel. But when God created man and ordered Angels to bow before this man, only Iblees (Satan) refused to do so giving argument that he can't before a man made of clay.

Muslims believe, and this may be of help in your seeking, that God first created angels from light, and they are perfect and in a constant state of worship, never disobeying and not capable of that. And that next, God created the jinn (the invisible creatures some call devils in english) from the smokeless fire, and that they have the capacity to sin or not, similar to mankind. And that next, God created Adam from the clay/dirt and then Eve from his rib, and mankind has the capacity to sin or obey.

Satan is known as "Iblis" in Arabic. He was a jinn who refused to prostrate in prayer facing Adam and God "cast him out".... if you're interested in more details, please click on the links under "source" below.

There is no Satan, everything else is God Himself. Goodness and evil is a part of life cycle just like day and night. These phenomena is co-related and depending each other for its survival.
