I have bought a lantern light that requires 6V battery, I tried to switch it on, but it doesn't. Does a 6V battery require precharging? or is this a case of malfunctioning equipment?

Only if it is a rechargeable battery. DO NOT attempt to recharge a battery that doesn't specifically say that it is rechargeable (fire, explosion, other bad stuff). If it is a rechargeable battery then be sure that a designated battery charger, designed for that specific battery type, is being used. If it is not a rechargeable battery and your lantern isn't working, you can assume that it is a bad battery.

I shouldnt need charging whether it be a lithium or alkalyne type battery. First you need to check your lamp for anything to go wrong like, yes, the bulb. After that you need to see wat battery type and if it is chargeable. If it is alkalyne then it might have to be precharged depending on the ammount of time of unuse and how much of it has self ionized and reacted. If it is lithium then you might just want to get another battery because lithiums recharge themselves automatically unless your using one form the 1990's and downward

It relies upon on the charger fee. you want to ascertain amps not volts. the bigger the amps the longer it truly is going to take to price. that's such as a vehicle battery charger. look on it to work out if it has a fee. Batteries are measured in amps or Milliamps. as an party in case you cost at .05 milliamps in line with second it takes three hundred minutes to price a 900 Milliamp battery.
