There is no specific number. Some people are biologically prone to addiction, others are unlikely to develop an addiction, and lots of people fall somewhere in between. If one or both of your parents has had problems with addiction (this includes alcohol) you should be especially cautious, since you may have inherited genes that make you more susceptible.

If you have had a problem with one substance, stay away from all potentially addictive substances.

If you think you might be addicted now, ask yourself if you have suffered negative consequences as a result of using this substance. Examples include DUI, losing a job, losing a friend, getting bad grades, getting kicked out of the house or an apartment, etc. Do you still use the substance despite the negative consequences you have suffered? If so, I'm sorry to say you are an addict.

Now this is a very broad question to be asking for only one time table. But if I have to give you one answer it would be 1. You have to start an addiction with that first time for it to beome one at all.

it's not an exact number.

the number you have in mind is an estimated average.

not everyone will become addicted within the same number of tries.

If memory serves me correctly, though, I believe the number is 26.
