There is never the wrong time to say the line. If you force the person to achieve more than 100% of his strength, that person is able to complete his mission, but in the end, he'll break down like an old engine. There is more to life than getting the job done, if you can't do it then do the best you can and move one. Nobody can blame you for trying your hardest.

In the theater it is supposed to be very bad luck to say 'good luck' to any actor in the play before the performance. In order to wish them luck you are supposed to say, "Break a leg", instead.
