A person needs freedom to grow and discover new avenues. A relationship can be confining and limit a persons possibilities to grow. This is true at any age and a good relationship gives space to the partner to "do his/her thing." Some people need more space than a relationship will allow and in that case it's best to discuss what each party truly wants, and when there is time for the relationship.
This sounds to me the person is not serious with you. Get the message and move on.

I would want to know why they wanted to be set free. If they wanted to be set free just to see if you would do it then I would wonder, but in my opinion the line "if you love someone, set them free...." really was said by someone who loved another who didn't love them back, and I would worry if the one I loved wanted me to do that.

If the best thing for your loved one is not you then yeah, you gotta let him go. If he wants to break up with you and is using this idea to put it all on you so he does not have to feel bad then he as an asshat.

I would! because true love is sacrifice...I'd do anything just to make him happy . Setting someone free although it hurts means you have truly loved....

I THINK THAT YOU SHOULD TELL HIM THAT YOU DO LOVE HIM ENOUGH TO LET HIM GO IF HE IS UNHAPPY WITH YOU. TELL HIM THAT YOU DO LOVE HIM BUT A PART OF LOVING SOMEONE IS BEING ABLE TO LET THEM GO IF THEY FEEL THEY DONT WANT TO BE WITH YOU ANYMORE AND ALSO TELL THEM THAT YOU ARE NOT GOING TO PUT YOUR LIFE ON HOLD FOR THEM UNTIL THEY MAKE UP THEIR MIND.

I don't believe that there is any "proof" that can be shown. Emotions are not tangible-you can not touch them, taste them, or smell them. Therefore-there is no proof.
