When i say I'm cold, i really mean it. You could either keep me warm or be a kind gentleman and give me your coat/jersey or whatever and you could freeze instead of me. So romantic!

On a date, it probably means "show me a romantic side of yourself by offering me your coat or putting your arm around me, you clueless dolt".
It never hurts to offer a woman a comfort or a courtesy.
