No Way! What has the government ever done so great that would lead you to want to entrust your health care to it. The government screws up everything. If you think Health Care is expensive now....Let the greedy Scum sucking politicians get their hands into the pot.

A similar ideal works well in UK, not tax, but national insurance paid from income. Though nowadays, more private sectors are evident as many surgeries have long waiting lists.
Best part is no one gets turned away, emergencies are treated as such and you don't lose lifes savings because of families bad health.

Free health care is a must may be even if you have to pay a little tax. UK system is better for but only thing is that the wait-lists should be avoided. If the country can not cope up outsource the job to INDIA which has much better professional skill now.

I think it largely depends on how much and what items are taxed to cover it. Personally, I would gladly pay $5/gallon for gas if it meant free healthcare for all. I also think other things that could have a higher tax to pay for it could be cigarettes/tobacco products and alcohol. Mainly because they are products that have so many proven serious effects both physically and (especially with alcohol) emotionally. From personal experience, many of the people who are addicted to these products (and suffering from related medical conditions) are already recieving free health care which is paid for by our taxes. Just my opinion and not meant to offend anyone.

No. The goverment can not manage a health care system. Look at everything else they do, look at the red tape and ineficency of it.
Health care is for private buisness and I pay more then enough taxes already.

Depends on how MUCH higher, and what items are taxed for this purpose. Income? All purchases? Purchases excluding necessities like food and clothing?

If taxes were raised to create this "free" healthcare system, it obviously would not be free.
