Your hair turns brown from oxidization. Water and the sun actuall effect your hair. This is natural. You can use a conditioner that has a SPF and will keep your hair from changing as drastically. Also if you swim alot that will have more of an effect. Use a shampoo for swimmers to reduce the chlorine buildup. Make sure that you use a good heavy conditioner on the ends at least twice a week and condition normaly every day.

What color is your hair to begin with? Do you spend a lot of time swimming in pools or in the sun? If you are susceptible to sun or chemical damage, then I believe there are some products out there for you...maybe talk to your favorite salon about it? It sounds like it starts off black and turns brown? Or blonde to brown? Maybe consider leaving it the way it is naturally or using a semi-permanent color. Based on my experience, color treating hair is ALWAYS damaging - - takes time to grow-out before looking healthy again.

head and shoulders is a very harsh shampoo and if I used it my hair would be falling out in tinkles.
Try using one of the other more conditioning ones. If you don't have dandruff why use something that harsh. Course my son uses it all the time but if you want long hair you can't.

What is your natural hair color? Its a vitamin deficiency in your body. You need vitamin D, calcium, protein, zinc & magnesium, and some vitamin E. You could also buy special shampoos to keep it from doing that. Try Garnier Fructice, or Tresseme ;o)

You may want to try a UV protectant. Redkin makes some nice ones. It may be going lighter slightly due to UV from the sun. This can also weaken hair.

Do you use a relaxer on your hair? If so that can lighten the hair, especially if it has been overlapped. Don't ever overlap when you put a relaxer on your hair. If it isn't from a relaxer then maybe your hair is getting sun bleached, that can also dry the hair out.

Hair usually gets lighter in the sun, the longer you grow your hair, the more it is exposed to the sun. Therefore, your hair tuns brown.

Like grass? Try washing it once a week and trimming it every 2 months and oil your hair/scalp everyday.
