the situation is that i went to my friend's house and i used the neighbor's wireless connection. do i get charged for it? can they trace me? how is that possible?

no u will not get charged . its against the law but no one ever gets in trouble unless they are doing something really bad like fraud or something . i wold say go ahead and do as u please . its there duty to secure it so if its an open network . by all meens do what u want with it . i look at it this way . all those radio waves are going through my head so why not take advantage of them . good luck . by the way its really hard for the average person to trace anything on a wireless Internet so don't even worry

If your friends neighbour has a dial up connection then the neighbour will be able to track the usage.

If the neighbour has unlimited broadband -- you can steal away!

Not if they didn't secure their wireless network properly. But it still is an act of theft, in my opinion, if you use something without asking its owner.

no, they probably could trace you if they wanted to, but most people aren't that interested or that sharp to know how to do that
