Not that i am complaining i am so happy for him but just wondering why the alcohol is clearing his face up, i mean it is something so simple. He also washes his face atleast twice daily with dial soap, a remedy his teacher told him.

Because alcohol is a contact killer, so when he rubs it over his face, it kills off a lot of the germs on it which could infect his pores. The dial soap does the same thing.

Alcohol also has an astringent quality to it, causing his skin to tighten up, which helps keep new dirt and bacteria from invading his pores.

Alcohol cuts through the body oils and doesn't leave a film on skin as soap might. Your son should rinse his face well (with water) after using the alcohol.

The alcohol closes pores, as well, because of its cooling effect on the skin.

Diet is one of the best methods for controlling acne -- little/no oil, butter, refined sugars; vegetables; bottled water... - plus changing pillow cases often, and washing the face as often as possible, too, like the teacher suggested. I am also a firm believer in cranberry juice (straight, sour, nothing added -- helps to warm it -- no "cocktails") for clearing acne. "You are what you eat", so diet is important.

I am not a doctor, but that's what I recommend.

(Someone else just asked about acne - and I was going to suggest "alcohol" - but it's really not good for the cells of skin... especially if the person is out n the sun (or warm) a lot. Again, I am not a doctor.)

:)

Be careful, the acne could come back even worse than before because the alcohol is riding the skin of its natural oils. The oil on the skin is not the cause of breakouts. The cause of breakouts is clogged pores.
If you get rid of all the oil on the skin, you don't have a buffer to stop bacteria from getting into the pores and causing breakouts. The skin is having to work twice as hard because its having to replace all the oil that is gone.
As long as he washes his face he should be fine.

probably, it's the fact that he's washing his face, clearing it of all dead skin cells which contribute to acne. I had some minor acne problems, and using a facial cleanser and skin moisturizer twice a day not only solved my problem but made my skin healthier than ever. It's just a matter of cleaning deep inside the pores, and making sure the skin is moisturized. Taking some vitamins for the skin, like A, E, and C also helps.

Bacteria causes acne breakouts usually by constantly touching your face or from sweat. The alcohol is killing the bacteria and thus reducing his breakouts. He may want to try something more gentle but just as bacteria-killing as alcohol. Dermalogica Anti-Bac skin wash is great for teens and acne. In the long run the alcohol will dry out the skin and irritate it...causing more annoying breakouts. DDF Sulfur mask is also super.

The alcohol cleans the pores thoroughly and disinfects. You wouldnt want him to do more than once a day though because alcohol does strip the skin of its natural much needed oils. The skin will compensate by producing excess oil causing a rebound effect making his acne worse.

Acne is caused by bacterial infection in the pores. The alcohol is killing that bacteria but a word of caution, the alcohol is also be extemely drying to his skin. Glad he's clearing up though!

All acne is is bacteria. When you put a bacteria killing agent on it it dies. Alcohol actually dries out skin and causes microscopic cuts on the skin when used. It disolves you skin, plus do you really want to use something on you that is flammable?

I reccommend PureWorks, it kills bacteria and viruses for hours while improving skin condition. Uses no alcohol. A new product.

Look at the product tour to learn about it. I would use the foam or lotion. I use them now.

Alcohol vs. bacteria. Bacteria will loose. He's found something that works so that's good. As long as you keep the pores clean, He should be in the clear. Why didn't I think of that? Oh well...
